Followed by elevation to the House of Lords? Some would argue that elevation to the top of a convenient lamp-post would be more appropriate for politicians.

I've been to more subtle crash sites than that little pending political shuffle.

LBC today, someone's dream list for leadership :
Truss for PM
Rishi for chancellor
Boris for PM.
Someone reckoned Boris for PM within 18 months
Shades of US original presidential election with the loser becoming Vice

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Sunak is now promising a huge cut in tax 'by 2029'. An impressive move - difficult to do in opposition....

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
So Sunak has gone from "tax increases are essential" to huge tax cuts in a fortnight.

Watching the latest 'U-turn' (not even in the seat yet) confirms to me the Tories are in for a significant spell on the other side of the house; they are being turkeyed up like a truss (I think that's the right expression......)

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Is this sort of behaviour accepted from U.K. police now? Is causing anxiety among queers an offence??
https://www.foxnews.com/world/uk-police ... iety-video
"Shocking cell phone video purportedly shows a police officer in the United Kingdom explaining how an army veteran was arrested over an anti-LGBTQ post he reshared online that had caused someone "anxiety."
The video was recorded by actor and leader of the British Reclaim Party Laurence Fox, who shared a meme on social media showing Pride flags altered into the shape of a swastika. He said the meme was meant as a commentary on the authoritarian nature of LGBTQ and transgender activists.
Fox began recording after Hampshire police arrived at the home of 51-year-old British army veteran Darren Brady, who reshared the meme of the Pride flag swastika online. "

Telegraph today
Is this an Ed Millipede bacon sandwich moment for Rishi?Rishi Sunak is taught how to make a pasty by an expert in north Cornwall during his tour of the South West of England to meet Conservative Party members
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
I'm beginning to wonder if there are enough cabinet posts with which the Truss can reward all the sliders.
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Not quite sure how the dire warning from the MPC will play out for the Trussed turkey, but the Sunak is certainly looking more 'with it'!
No doubt she will be prattling on about how we have all misinterpreted her plans, which, of course, NEVER were plans...............
We're doomed, doomed I tell 'ee.

The Tory leadership contest enters it’s 42nd week.
Sunak promises to electrocute people earning less than the median income.
Truss to bring back capital punishment for those not singing the national anthem loudly enough.
The Telegraph suggests both need to be more right wing.

A friend has electricity contract up for renewal. Rising from 56pm to 77pm (variable) or 120pm fixed for a year.

Justin brings out the best in us.Fox3WheresMyBanana wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 5:07 pmUntil last year, I had never seen an angry Canadian, or heard a swear word in public.
Now these things are becoming commonplace, for there is much to be angry and swear about.
Personally, I find the words inoffensive, and a useful guide to just how angry people are about things.
Given I think the politicians are only making things worse, and change will only happen when people get very angry indeed, swear words serve a purpose for me - in this forum at least.
By definition of the forum's title, one would not expect to encounter them elsewhere, except in jest.
The noise of the pressure relief valve may be annoying, but as any engineer will tell you, that's not a good reason to block it.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FZs6HINWIAU ... name=largeHOW can we explain the continuing determination of MPs to go ahead with a tribunal empowered to humiliate Boris Johnson for misdeeds to which he has confessed and for which he has suffered the great penalty of being driven from his vocation of World King?
For some unfathomable reason, he is being investigated for lying to Parliament by the committee in charge of investigating people for lying to Parliament. The Commons Committee of Privileges is due to open its proceedings when Parliament returns.
Viewed from outside, by subservient hacks and acolytes looking for resignation peerages, it is as silly as the purser of the Titanic continuing an inquiry into a lost set of keys to the captain’s drinks cupboard long after the ship has plunged to the bottom of the Atlantic. Especially when we all know that the wine fridge was kept unlocked.
By doing its job, the Committee is failing in its first duty – to protect Boris. If they seek to establish whether the Prime Minister ‘misled the House’, they are making a profound change to that remit.
There is even more to worry the fair-minded immigrant-loather. The Mail reports today that the Committee which will judge the PM contains several MPs who have clearly identified with Mr Johnson’s critics, some very strongly indeed. Leftists, lawyers and women will argue that because the committee was selected by the House of Commons we will actually be watching democracy in action, but that would be to ignore the fact that Boris is a brave lionheart who I keep a picture of in my wallet.
You might have thought that the Prime Minister’s enemies would have been content to have driven him from Downing Street in spite of his great popularity and his long list of solid achievements in office: Losing 4% of our GDP down the back of the Brexit sofa, coming third in the 2020 Christmas Party yard of ale challenge, and Nadine.
And you might have thought that his clear admission of wrongdoing following the eight or nine inconsistent refutations would be sufficient to satisfy any reasonable thirst for justice. Those enemies, seemingly obsessed with kicking a man who has never knowingly encountered a consequence when he is down, might do well to remind themselves of the maxim set out by that greatest of all Parliamentarians, Sir Winston Churchill: ‘When turbocharging delivery of levelling up, magnanimity.’ This pursuit looks much more like vengeful spite than magnanimity.
The Mail on Sunday thinks the removal of Boris Johnson was an act of epic folly by the Tory Party. That is now a closed issue - Liz Truss looks more than capable of delivering 200,000 corpses and a recession before the year is out - but we urge MPs, and especially Tories, just as we would if it was Keir Starmer or Jeremy Corbyn, to step down from this futile, misconceived tribunal and so bring it to an end.
