I'd been (mis?)informed on that she did a year in that rank and then the following year she simply didn't show up. A bit like Dubya in the ANG. I didn't mean to imply that her subsequent promotion to Hon Commander and then to Hon Captain was some kind of naval career progression. She's never had a proper military or commercial or industrial career outside politics. PPE degree, then into a Tory PR job, albeit with a brief sidespur as a PR wonk for Trump's Prez campaign.
In PR terms, the word 'promotion' is quite apt. It's a marketing campaign, a recruitment drive but with dollybirds instead of 1914-style recruiting Sergeants.
It'll be interesting to see if she can trump, so to speak, Sunak's access to hundreds of millions and his personal access to the media oligarchs and the billionaires who usually manoeuvre their preferred candidate into the top job.
