A local girl who was expected to qualify, easily, for medical school has got 6 D's in her grades. In all her time at school she has never been marked as low as a D. Seems suspicious to me and I hope she gets a review.

It's just a tiny snapshot of the stupidity, slavish adherence to all rules, and lack of horse-sense found all over the UK these days.

I'm Scottish, and in future I hope to visit during the Summer months as it can be quite pleasant there.

I intend to live somewhere else though, where feet remain firmly on the ground.

The UK has become a true wankers paradise.

1DC, as I understand it I think that in cases such as yours there is an appeal process which the school can follow, it is anticipated that individual appeals will be looked on with a fair review. I hope in this case that it is.

Thankfully the Sproglettes have not had exams this year. However, their school, which for the last 5 years has had between 92% and 97% passes at grade C or better, this year achieved only 80%. Somehow that seems wrong. The Head is appealing.

One daughter years ago got an abysmal grade where a lot of credence was given to course assignments. She got a very low grade at French. She is now a ksngiag8 teacher at a secondary school teaching German, French and Spanish. No 2 daughter got a very low history grade as the school taught the wrong syllabus. Speaking with her admissions tutor he said he would rather someone with a low grade and 1st choice than a higher grade and a clearing placement.

The point, grades alone don't matter.

But fairness in judging those grades should be sacrosanct...

Intelligence and ability is so much more but in a world that sets store by the grade, then in a democracy that relies upon the fact that grades should be fairly judged, what has happened this week is a total disgrace. What has happened in England is that the statistically and mathematically incompetent have **** it up and will deny the right to a higher education to some who are worthy. For shame...

TGG. admittedly No2 daughter was in charge of officer selection and had to defend the rejection of a Ghanaian applicant who had a degree from Aberdeen but lacked the requisite two A levels. His degree was genuine as were his A level certificates except they were his brothers. Apart from attempted fraud a degree did not trump no A levels.
