No.
Government taxes and regulations make it, in general, impossible for a small business to make a profit. Certainly for start-ups in small towns.
And that it turn makes it impossible for Government to run a balanced budget.
So they will bankrupt the fiat currency, all of them, to stay in power a little longer.
This is why we now have unfixable inflation everywhere.
And massive supply chain problems.
Except if you are, for example Turkish, in which case you can acquire a 'golden visa', by putting down a varying amount of money into a business. The government will then assist you with reducing business rates and other start-up costs. If things don't go too well, you can get a mate to bypass the electricity meter and then grow cannabis in the upstairs part of the building. In the case of by-passing the meter, you tell the police that it was your partner who did it, and you were not aware of it, so you are allowed to re-open. All this explains the proliferation of Turkish barbers and takeaways (other nationalities are available), throughout the country. Both of these events took place within a 3-mile radius of my house in a rural area of Northamptonshire. I shudder to think how much of this is going on around the country. Welcome to Britain 2024!

Failure rates are high for the UK Innovator Visa and reached 35% in Quarter 1 of 2022. Admittedly some nations have faced higher rejection rates than others such as Pakistan and Iran (my italics) while others including South Africa, Canada, USA and Hong Kong have seen far greater success.

In Canada, the failure rate for the equiv. of the Innovator is near 100% in some areas. They don't care. It's considered the cost of buying a passport. Many don't even bother to start a business and just forfeit the amount.
Since all the money was usually obtained from government fraud or crime in the country of origin, it wasn't their money anyway! It's just a means of gaining residency so they can transfer the rest of their ill-gotten gains out of their country of origin.
As is buying property. And the government here is in on it, both locally and nationally. For instance, they restrict the list of immigration lawyers allowed to handle these visas to a few of their mates, for the usual baksheesh.

Interesting how an MP is castigated for suggesting Muslims are running London (funny that, I thought it was Palestinians) but nobody ever investigated the Nigerians who took over Islington Council. A couple got jobs, they invited cousins and uncles and brothers, all currently employed in Upper Street, now you can't get a council flat unless you are from Lagos or Port Harcourt.

Romsey School in Hampshire has scrubbed normal science lessons and is now doing "Masterclasses" with 150 pupils in a class.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/0 ... on-romsey/

As it happens, I have personal experience of science classes at Romsey school. I used to visit there, off my own bat, to observe lessons and see curriculum planning in a state school. In return, I would help maintain their physics equipment as they had no teacher qualified in the subject, or any technician so qualified.
20 years ago, the state education reforms had made the school unmanageable because of student indiscipline, and the Head was in his own world of management-speak "initiatives". He decorated the school with motivational posters and blamed the staff for everything. It was a miserable shambles, and a perfect place to learn how not to do things.
Clearly, it's gone downhill rapidly from there ;)))

Actually, their Head of English jumped ship at the time and came to be the Chemistry technician at our private school, where she was a lot happier and stayed till retirement.

Applicable worldwide, and known by everyone with at least half a brain for decades, but at last there seems to be some waking up in some of the media and NGOs, though not government yet, that mass immigration is economic suicide
In essence, government ignored the infrastructure and services required for a greater population when calculating the supposed 'benefit' of mass migration.

Had to admit a small snigger here - Amol Rajan (BBC broadcaster and 'chair' of University Challenge - has apparently upset Jeremy *unt by referring to him as the 'Fiscal Drag Queen' after the budget.

Lee Anderson has joined his third political party in eight years, leading to this quote
Announcing Mr Anderson's defection, Reform UK Leader Richard Tice said his party had founds a "champion" for its plans to supplant the Conservatives in the Red Wall.
Mr Anderson was a "person of great integrity", Mr Tice added.

If it is the parties that keep changing their principles and throwing their integrity out of the window, and it would be hard to argue otherwise, then the quote is not inconsistent.
That's not to say it's correct, but it is consistent.

He previously called Richard Tice a pound shop Farage and was pictured with a re-elect Jeremy Corbyn poster in an earlier incarnation, so his integrity is questionable at least.

Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with his sense of humour.
He is an MP, so his integrity is questionable at least.

Whilst they'll get hammered now, he must think they'll get slaughtered later.
My UK politics teacher friend reckons there's a possibility Labour isn't ready for a snap election, and that's possibly the motivator, if it's happening.

I suspect the people are ready for a snap election, although I'm sure they'd like some decent candidates to vote for instead of the usual crowd. Doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always gets in.

I for one would like to see the following applied to any of the WTF is happening threads we discuss on the forum.
Limiting politicians to two terms should be mandatory, this present system of it becoming a job for life is way beyond a joke. They then bail out to
take a made-up job at some company that attempts to win government contracts. Most have never held a job in the real world, they have no idea
how their rulings will impact the everyday living of their constituents. This limit of two terms should apply to all democratically elected governments,
no ifs or buts.

In the original Greek democracy, no one could stand for a second council term until everyone who wanted to had had a first term.

I'm with the Queen of Hearts on the solution to this one.

Buggins turn?

The council typically consisted of around 40 members, and was in session for a few months.
So not much opportunity for a weak individual to screw things up.
No one was obliged to put themselves forward, so not quite Buggins turn.
