She had every reason to do so because of the European funds offered on them and spend on the local economy. Now if there are some collateral issues (mainly crime) there are ways to sweep them under the carpet.OFSO wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 1:59 pmJust been on Catalan TV News.
Migrants arriving in the Canary Islands from Africa.
2019: 2,800
2020: 23,500
Most travelling on to the mainland, which explains the squalid tent cities occupying the sea fronts in Barcelona and Badelona.
I remember a few years, ago the socialist Mayoress Ada Coleau said they were all welcome.

Re: Migrants
Given that these people have no papers, how are they allowed (and where do they get the money from) to make even domestic flights? I know The Canaries will not want their tourist industry spoiled by these people, but sending them from one place to another solves nothing, especially in a popular city like Barcelona. Maybe Melilla or Ceuta (the two colonies the Spanish never speak of), would be more appropriate for them?Rwy in Sight wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 6:55 amShe had every reason to do so because of the European funds offered on them and spend on the local economy. Re: Migrants
There must be some sort of hidden agenda in government. They are well aware of what is happening, but nothing is being done. the French are clearly not co-operating, (nothing new there), and the people-smugglers must be making a fortune. (I wonder how much of that is being fed back into French pockets?). Little or no effort is being made to repatriate these individuals and until there is, and word gets around, they'll keep coming in by the boatload.
When I lived in Greece, there was a huge problem with them arriving onto the islands near Turkey and crossing the river which forms the border between Greece and Turkey. A friend of mine in the Greek army told me that most of them were flown back to Turkey (in a C-130!), but then the Greek and Turks had another falling-out and the repatriation stopped. I don't know what happens now.

Maybe this is a solution. . Currently there is an agreement for Turkey to take back from Greece people deemed not eligible for immigrant status (and in exchange one from Turkey is allowed to go to Western Europe) but the agreement doesn't work very well. Few weeks ago I saw a flight from Greece to Pakistan from a charter operator so obviously there are some direct deportations taking place but too few and far between.
One issue raised few years ago was countries in Africa and Asia not accepting their nationals back after a deportation.

Re: Migrants
Yes, I believe this is the case. How many of these countries are given aid from the UK? If they refuse to take back their own citizens, then we should turn off the aid tap.Rwy in Sight wrote: ↑Thu Jun 03, 2021 7:15 pmT15

Re: Migrants
I share the suggestion in EU level but I see a problem. This aid is not necessarily cash but funding available to buy products and services from EU or British business - depending who runs the program. So the countries not accepting the immigrants will be penalized but EU and British business who receive the funding will lose revenue.

A former chief of Border Force has stated that the primary task of Border Force in the Channel is to save life.

Some thoughts on this:
He can't say any different without permission from his superiors - because these our orders.
Various NGO have done an excellent job making a welcome framework for any one wanting to join the EU and / or the UK!

Re: Migrants
Some odd numbers. The number of adults vaccinated in UK gives an adult population of 52 million.
The number of children not in school in England due to isolation gives a child population of 3.3 million.
Sums to 55 million.
How many children are there in NI, Wales and Scotland? Not 3 million.
Sums to 58 million.
There is a gap of 12 million somewhere.

Re: Migrants
There are pre-school children (including babies and toddlers), children who are in school who are not isolating and school-leavers not yet adults.
the number of children (those aged under 16 years) increased by 8.0% to 12.7 million.

G CPTN, all true but certainly not another 6 million and still 6 million fewer than NF's figure of 70m.

Re: Migrants
There have been any number of studies into the actual population, such as analysing sewage etc. They all show that the actual population is millions more than the official figure.
Nigel Fromage has been very accurate in his predictions of the numbers of criminal incomers. Actually, he's been quite conservative with his numbers. The actual outcome has always been even worse than his predictions. He does not exaggerate in his predictions.

Re: Migrants
Whilst the general perception is of a mass of migrants from numerous origins, what if the majority were 'sleepers' who could be activated into uprising in a revolution?

Re: Migrants
I don't think any of them are politically motivated in their migration.
Just like when the first hominids moved out of the Olduvai Gorge, they are just looking for a better place to live where the living is easy.

Are all those 'slipping ashore' isolating' or just shipping in the beta variant from La Belle?

Re: Migrants
At least 430 migrants crossed the English Channel to the UK on Monday - a new record for a single day - the Home Office has said.
The department said it was taking "substantial steps to tackle the unacceptable problem of illegal migration".
Around 50 people were seen landing on the beach at Dungeness in Kent after crossing in one dinghy.
The group included women and young children.
It comes after eight boats carrying 241 migrants reached the UK on Sunday.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has pledged to make Channel crossing "unviable".
Looks pretty viable to me.
Re: Migrants
So that's probably 50 cases of the beta variant imported.

Re: Migrants
It's all right.
HMS Defender will be along shortly to demonstrate her right of innocent passage in ffrench territorial waters and deliver the criminals back to ffrance.
That what she's for, isn't it? To defend Britain against invaders? That sort of thing.
Don't we have a ministry of "defence" to deal with this sort of thing? Y'know £46Billion a year with a Y-o-Y increase of 6.4% this year to cover Inflation.
If that ministry isn't fit for purpose, then perhaps we could better spend those 46 billions on doing rather more for the NHS than standing on the doorstep of Downing Street and giving a round of applause.
