It would be very easy, given the power of the internet, to shift large amounts of admin work and service jobs (both government and private) to local offices and thus massively reduce commutes. However, the same people are not paying all the bills, so whilst it makes overall economic sense it does not make sense for the employers. No joined-up thinking by government in creating a taxation scheme that reflects true costs, nor even comparing overall costs between their own departments.

I see some dickhead eco-child-worshipping scientist has named a beetle after Greta Thunberg. N.Gretae. It's eyeless, hence blind, very appropriate. Can't be bothered posting the article, go seek on BBC if you are interested in the lives of beetle-ologists.

It's a flightless little thing with what look like pigtails attached to its head.

There is also a moth called Neopalpa donaldtrumpi which is known for its distinctive gingerish head and "comparatively small" genitals.

And there's Dermophis donaldtrumpi which is an amphibian which buries its head in the sand.

There are gentlemen and officers and there are also other ranks? Where do you fit in that equation?

I suspect you are an officer, maybe pilot or, at least, an RAF man (wherein lies honor). The more vocal here are just ranters. Most, or maybe none, who have ever done anything honorable or flown a bloody thing, even a bloody kite in their latter days...

Where I come from men keep their opinions about women to themselves and show some bloody dignity and respect.

Does anyone here know where the blessed child is now? Why isn't she back in school in Sweden? If she is, how did she get there?
I feel we should be told.

I am curious how feasible would be for a "normal" individual to have access to the same cars, ocean going vessel to move in a supposedly ecological way as she does.

Greta Thunberg knows nothing.

How do I know this? Because she's 15.

That people listen to her is laughable, but completely in tune with the idiot times we are living through.

Fill your boots, idiots.

I see the child wonder doesn't know how she is going to return from Ameriky after the December conference. Won't fly, pollution, won't boat, ditto, nobody to send a supercat to collect her. Perhaps she'll just stand on the shore and scream in rage.

What happened to the un-eco-friendly carbon fibre boat she arrived in? Wouldn't it have been a good idea for her to learn how to sail it on the way to America so that she could sail it back home solo. =))

What happened to the eco-friendly boat ?The crew flew back to Europe, and another crew flew out from Europe to sail it back. Nothing like sailing a boat to avoid polluting aircraft.

Greta was playing out a narrative role in the eco-left's shaming of we users of energy. The climate change juggernaut will run out of steam as people realize the climate isn't really changing, and a large sum of money is being paid by them to assuage a non-existent liability.

But suckers are born every minute, and soon the left will come up with a new bogey man to scare the masses into forking over huge sums of money to promote politicians committed to taking it from us.

The wee lassie's travel plans appear to have been somewhat discombobulated by events in Chile.

The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP25, was planned to be the 25th United Nations Climate Change conference. It was planned to be held in Santiago, Chile, between 2–13 December 2019 but was cancelled on 30 October due to 2019 Chilean protests.

2019 protests!

That is a lot of them.

I was only expecting about 400.

Maybe: SKYNEWS.COM.AU VID-20190924-WA0000.MP4 will find it ? best of luck.

A short piece telling kids complaining about Global Warming to walk or cycle to school, instead of clogging the roads with "Mum's Taxi" make a sandwich instead of needing money to spend at the nearest fast food joint, stop demanding the latest digital device etc. etc.

Good stuff. ( after all, we coped didn't we ? )

Most of those "sacrifices" are too hard for kids nowadays - not I blame them - you are the one walking to the school and have the old 2 year old device and all the cool kids enjoy those benefits and you become a looser rather than a hero. Much like using Mass Transport over you own set of wheels.

Looser or Loser ?

Why not use mass transport when it is frequent and cheap ? As we now do re-visiting Mrs. ExS's old haunts i.e we can travel all around Los Angeles for 50c.

No choice in NZ, no transport at all, mass or otherwise.

Apologies for the mistake and thanks for pointing out: loser is the correct word.

In most cases it is not frequent and cheap although we can argue a lot what is frequent. As a matter of fact the app saying when a bus is due can be more useful rather a vague notion of high frequency. For the adults the issue is often mass transport not running reliably after 22:00 hence a car is necessary for a night out.

To answer your point to take the 18:08 bus to drop you off at the mall takes some organising kids don't have so it's easier to commandeer "Mum's Taxi" to the mall and the cinema.
