I always hear it as Greater Bumturd but it could be because of bad local radio reception.

The aviation industry is set to launch a campaign to combat the growing flight shaming movement led by Greta Thunberg. The campaign comes as weakened demand has been reported in Europe.

There is one question to be answered and that's the credibility of anyone making a pronouncement, no matter what the subject. Has the person amassed sufficient academic knowledge to assess evidence both for and against the subject, or is the person simply selectively picking facts from other people's work ? Given GT's age it's obvious that the first premise has not been met. There has been no time in her short life for her to equip herself with the knowledge to make an independent judgement based on research she has done herself. Given this fact I find it surprising how much weight has been given to her opinions, no matter how forcefully they are expressed.

You're exactly right, OFSO. GT is a stage prop, trained to promote an agenda, indoctrinated, and presents the polished sentiment of climate activists' righteous indignation to the world. She's indeed too young to have developed any deep thought or analysis of the climate issues. She is but a puppet. But Leonardo DiCaprio thinks she's the next Messiah, I read today, so maybe he's right and I'm wrong.

Sitting in the dentist's waiting room this morning, perusing the normally bland Amigos magazine - multi lingual, German, nothing printed that would offend anyone - I found this:

If, for example, a cargo ship was sailing across the Atlantic ocean carrying a cargo of whatever, hitching a lift as a passenger would have negligible effect on the fuel burn, therefore the journey (for the passenger) would be carbon free - n'est-ce pas?

G-CPTN, and supposing your carbon footprint for your two week Caribbean cruise was 10 tons, you could save that by cancelling your cruise. n'est-ce pas?

Well not quite. Your empty cabin will still release 10 tons.

Oh, and the collateral damage. By staying at home you will not but that little piece of made in China tourist that from a little old lady in St Lucia. That little old lady will not be able to buy the food to feed her family. And so on.

How about we help Sweden reduce its carbon creating industry: stop buying Volvos.😇

I'm doing my part, I've never bought a Volvo.

Neither have I, but I once looked at buying one rather seriously. The C30 with the 2.5l 5 cyl turbo engine. But Volvo's future was questionable at the time.

I have to admit my sister bought a couple of ABBA records though.

I see that the Greta has managed to hitch a ride across the Atlantic with an Australian couple.
They have my sympathy.

Indeed. I think they should learn the Swedish for "shut up ! shut the f*ck up !" before she sets an eco-friendly foot on board.

Possibly being employed as a baby sitter??? The folks she has bummed a lift with have a sprog - poor little mite, no bedtime fairy stories for him only predictions of doom and gloom.

Greta hitches a lift

There’s always a chance, particularly at this time of year, that the North Atlantic will do its worst and they’ll have a man child overboard situation.

Just an idle thought; in the UK if your child doesn't go to school then you get fined. So are the Swedes more tolerant of truancy? :-\

I understand she is on a kind of break allowed by the state.

Not strictly true. If your child is registered at school in the UK and doesn't attend then you can get fined. If you're home educating then "receiving an education" is all that is required. I'm sure she's learning something, even if it's "I'm never getting on a bloody boat again"

Also, she might be old enough now - if she turned 16 before the 1st September then she's no longer of compulsory school age in the UK.
