I went to school on my bike, from about the age of 9.

Mind you there wasn't much traffic in 1946.

For six years I went to boarding school by air. Twelve flights per year. Viscount initially, then Vanguard.

So, what?

My 'Boarding Schools' were No. 2 Radio School, RAF Yatesbury and No. 2 School of Technical, Training RAF Cosford.

3 rail warrants a year, for travel home.

I dreamed of having a bike when I was nine.

I was allowed to use my mum's shopper bike when I was 9. Having 20" wheels (the same as later fitted to BMX bikes), it turned out to be ideal for racing round the local woodland humps and pits, whilst my contemporaries on their chopper bikes rendered themselves incapable of fatherhood colliding with their gear shifts as they slid forward off the saddle.

Greta Thunberg is in LA (no idea why) but now Chile has cancelled the climate conference Spain has offered to hold it Any Time Real Soon in Madrid. Greta is to be the star turn at the conference but has problems getting from the 'States to Madrid. Bet she takes a flight...perhaps if she shuts her eyes and puts her fingers in her ears the pollution won't count.

That’s the trouble with grand publicity seeking, but useless, gestures - eventually you’ll get hoisted with your own petard and go from hero to laughing stock.

RiS All fair points, but in my young days "Mum" didn't have a taxi. We coped.

Now, Thunberg is looking for a low-emissions way to travel back across the Atlantic Ocean before COP25 commences on December 2.

"It turns out I've traveled half around the world, the wrong way," she tweeted on Friday, adding, "if anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful
She will end up flying and it will all go quiet.

Greta Thunberg is stuck on the wrong continent after the year's most important UN climate change summit got moved from Chile to Spain

https://www.businessinsider.co.za/greta ... ed-2019-11?

Leonardo DiCaprio has met with Greta Thunberg, calling the 16-year-old 'a leader of our time' and revealing that the two campaigners have 'made a commitment to support one another'.

The Oscar winning actor - who has been widely criticized for his use of private jets despite his interest in environmental causes - said it was an 'honor' to speak with the climate activist, posting an image of the two of them together on Friday.

In an Instagram post Leo said he hopes Greta's message is 'a wake up call to world leaders', adding that the schoolgirl makes him 'optimistic about what the future holds'.

It comes as Greta took to her own social media pages pleading for help in getting to the United Nations’ COP25 climate change summit.

She had been heading to Chile but after a location change from Santiago to Madrid she has 'traveled half around the world, the wrong way'.

Greta wrote: 'Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November... If anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful.'

Hundreds of cargo vessels cross the Atlantic every month.

Something that many land-lubbers don't know is that a cargo ship can carry up to 12 passengers without a passenger ship licence. Most shipping companies are happy to have the extra income from the fares. Thousands of people travel that way for one reason or another.

A 20,000 tonne ship has a massively smaller carbon footprint than a 200 tonne airliner, so her quasi-religous conscience can be kept clear.

She needs to stick her finger in her ass.

I am annoyed (but I guess I am the only one) she is upset that people's protest destroyed her schedule. It is more ironic that a main reason for the protest is the raise on subway fares - which may mean less people using mass transit.

Jane Fonda says she's "very worried" about Greta Thunberg. Yes, dear, aren't we all? But I suspect not for the same reasons. Happily I am no longer worried about Jane Fonda.

The dockers at Newport used to talk about trans-Atlantic cruises on the Fyffes ships bringing over the bananas from the Caribbean islands. Apparently, the ships were fully booked for months ahead and the dockers took some pride in claiming they monopolised the bookings. A return journey lasted about 12 days and passengers had to make their own entertainment. As one docker told me "It's 12 days of sitting around doing eff all". When I mentioned that's what they do anyway, he seemed to lose his sense of humour.
It's always my fault - SWMBO

Jane Fonda
Didn’t know Hanoi Jane was still alive. Is she showing any hopeful signs of critical illness or something?

The Problem Child is, apparently asking for suggestions as to how she can get to Spain carbon free.

Apart from a lengthy swim the only thing I can think of is to lend her 20c so that she can phone someone who actually gives a shite.

I think that the most entertaining movie she was in was, 'Cat Ballou'.
Though Lee Marvin and his horse were the stars.

Just heard a wonderful misproununciation of that child's name on the radio;

Greata Tinbag.
