What with the financial pundits forecasting another GFC/Recession on a daily basis. Governments scrabbling about in the dirt to save having to do anything meaningful. UK MP's with personal agendas re: Brexit, the US with impeachment, trade wars and Trump totally oblivious to civilised norms, Australia with royal commissions to just delay decisions, South America burning the Amazon forests, China with war crimes against the Uyghurs, Hong Kong, etc, etc. One must admit "It's a bloody mess". And that's ignoring climate change. It's changing irrespective of what one believes to be the reason.
My favourite would be an epidemic, a bit like Spanish Flu, or a more infectious variant of Ebola well entrenched in China or India. Mind you the West Coast of the US sliding into the sea has potential. Especially if the Tsunami is of monumental proportions that reaches all the way across the Pacific.
World needs a defibrillator shock to get things running properly again, or pronounce it bloody dead.

Ok, I did [and I love him three GG, not sure how BB, though] - isn't that 'in need' ironic? Alison? Like: people've lost their mind and don't know what they do? or want?

Yes Wuhan is nicknamed by the locals as The Furnace Of China and aptly so. In HKG I don’t as a rule eat chook or any other avianry unless the source is 100% safe (certain stalls, restaurants, Jasper’s mum). Back home they’ve beefed up imports of anything Chinese. No reports of any outbreak there.prospector wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 5:01 amSorry, finger trouble, here is the latest?? link.

Source (for Admin only): local knowledge/wife reports/first hand observations/SCMP hardcopy newspaper but can’t be bothered looking up links online/IMHO etc.

Sorry that should’ve read:Back home they’ve beefed up imports of anything Chinese.
Back home they’ve beefed up screening of imports of anything Chinese.
Update: still no reports of any outbreak there.

Well in that case, like slaughtering pigs and birds in the past, the Chinks should simply neutron bomb Wuhan. Not only will the virus be eliminated, but overall less GW CO2 produced by those pesky bloody humans, less GW-inducing farts, Burma won’t be hit by a wildly rampaging typhoon this year, Kofi Annan will find the SP ice that melted under his boots will’ve refrozen, and there’ll be just a bit more food for everyone in China.
Why isn’t the Turdberg pressing for this at the UN?

Might be a bit late for that, looks like it may have got out of China already
with 198 of them in Wuhan and another four cases reported in Japan, South Korea, and Thailand.

Well please don’t bomb Thailand!
Unless it’s Bangkok. That’s ok.
Calcutta too while you’re at it.

Bangkok is an incredibly nasty cruel town Wod. One has to take time and dig under the veneer. What’s there even still appals me!

Yeh KL is pretty good. A lot of snatch-thievery going on though so don’t have your smartphone out when crossing the street. Mrs Wod should keep her purse away from the traffic-facing side.
Malaysia is a good balance of infrastructure standard versus cost of living - very similar to N Thailand where I live. You should try Langkawi next time you’re around them parts sir. I don’t think the tourists have wrecked it yet and it’s a tax-free port to boot.

When one was employed we didn't get staff travel as such but we had a deal with a company "Tradewinds" or some such and we did Three weeks in Malaysia, Borneo for the Orange Chaps, KL for a city and Langkawi for the last few days, 7 internal flights, staying in five stars everywhere or highest available £900 for the two of us !
cannae do it now of course.
Sorry for the drift.

Tradewinds was the former name of what is now Silkair (Slackair in local pilot jargon).

No reported cases in Northern Thailand so far, but locals believe there is a big risk of entry into Udon Thani via Vientiane (Laos). Everyone’s locked and loaded.

Update: nil reports of any outbreak in N Thailand but the locals there are keeping a bloody good eye out.
