What is funny is that politicians who can control how things are done and change them if they thing are going in the wrong direction - they choose not to change them (hospitals, education, police forces) but they go private to obtain the best service money can buy (at a special price some times for them). Mrs Abbott said "how black boys underachieve in secondary schools" and instead to change that, she sent him to a private school.

Few years ago there was a suggestion to make public school (for their kids), public health system the only service providers for politicians. Unfortunately it did not work.

The UK collective madness continues unabated;

Top schools defend rejecting bursary for white boys https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-50947271

Imagine the PC storm if the colour in this story had been reversed? !

False comparison:
The top schools are stating they will not accept bursaries with any racial requirements.
I've worked in 4 private schools. I am not aware of any scholarships/bursaries with racial requirements. I have seen one which was associated with children from a Kenyan prep school, but I have taught at least one white kid who won it, so whilst most of the winners would be black, there was no racial exclusion.
Mostly there are awards associated with former schools, regions, and with parents' occupations.

These appear to be University scholarships, not school scholarships.

Skule. Uni. Does it matter, it’s a clear case of ethnic and/or racial distinction and I thought UK at least was alleged to operate without discrimination in favour of any group but it appears not to be the case?

UK law I believe allows discriminatory funding for disadvantaged groups. I think the point at issue is not whether white boys are such a group - the educational data clearly shows them to be so - but why schools are refusing to accept scholarships for them. I was pointing out that schools refuse to accept scholarships for any racially disadvantaged group, which at least shows them to be consistent. The potential donor could offer his scholarship on a personal basis, although the schools I've worked at usually ask for information on all other awards before deciding on bursary amounts, so might decide to award less consequentially.
The usual way around this would be to choose criteria that are de facto racist but not nominally so, such as "A Christian Boy from Skegness*", or "A member of the Millwall junior supporters club", or some other wholly white group.

*I'm just guessing that these are wholly white to illustrate the argument.

Discrimination and racism are nebulous concepts to be dragged out as and when needed.
They only exist (in UK) when practised by white Anglo Saxons. Those of other ethnic origins have a permanent 'get out of jail free' card.

UK public schools remain, in my experience, non-racist. There would typically be 10-15% of students from other races than caucasian. They would also have a mix of religions, which also caused no apparent friction. I have not taught at a school where muslim girls did sport (as they tended to join in the Sixth Form, where games were optional). I had no objections to my being a single male teacher of muslim girls, nor indeed did I when I taught girls in Oman. It is possibly easier when one has students from every continent, race, and religion, than when one has students from just one or two groups.
If there is any apparent racism, then it would be in the teaching staff. I have never worked with a black teacher, and only a couple of Asians (both Japanese). I've worked with caucasians from a wide variety of countries and native languages. I've never seen anyone but caucasians turn up as candidates, and where I have been doing the hiring I have never had an applicant who was apparently from a non-caucasian background.
One does therefore wonder why they don't seem to apply. I did once hire a deaf man, and indeed was encouraged to do so by the Headmistress to broaden the students' experience, despite the infrastructure costs involved in doing so. He was great.

So that’s what goes on behind the scenes on BBC Question Time?

https://www.conservativehome.com/platfo ... -hand.html

Yes it’s an account from one year ago from a bod in the Conservative party but if even half of it is true I’d rather not be in the same room as this lady who has soooh impressed us on O-N.

Poor lass, we’ve neglected her recently on this forum.

Here’s another car crash TV interview to warm the cockles etc;

Suggest you watch whilst seated to avoid potential injury?

Diane to leave
Her announcement has only just appeared on the BBC News web-site whilst it's been on Sky since this morning - wonder why it took the BBC so long? Even then, it is only mentioned over half-way down the front page.
It's always my fault - SWMBO

I think it was neatly summed up in a DT headline :

The departure of Miss Diane is a grievous blow to the Conservative Party.
Jumped, pushed or just fell over the edge?

Just a fond memory from a more or less pre-Covid-1984 period in history.

Apparently the svelte Diane has rejected an offer to appear on that awful BBC show "Strictly Come Dancing" so, though I'm deeply disappointed I don't need yet another excuse to avoid this brain death 'entertainment'.

'Asked why she felt she could not do the show, Ms Abbott joked: "Because you'll be surprised to know I'm not someone with natural rhythm and I didn't want it exposed to millions of television viewers."'

Possibly her first sensible response to a proposition all year, maybe a rest from the cut and thrust of Shadow minister duties has allowed her to realign her gyros? :)) =))

Ebony and ivory, on the same sofa, unchallenged by that arsehole McWossisname on a chatshow is the sort of shite why I took my CRT telly to the tip and will never pay another penny in "licence" fees ever again.

That pink-shirted rubbery-lipped poofter schoolchum of hers is as bad as she is.

What is she up to now, this far ahead of the next UK General Election?

Possibly making time for her and J C to get back into the Inner Circle of Labour?

Unless her maths has failed the test again.... :-? =))
