Uschi Van Der Leyen, shiny new non-pisshead (yet) president of the EU Commission, is reported at being horrified at EU Member States proposals for the upcoming budget, as they are planning on reducing their EU contributions by considerable amounts, in contrast to UvdL's proposals for hefty increases in EU spending. Can it be that they have been gazing into their crystal balls, and seen an EU minus the UK contributions and with the PIIGS heading back into recession ? If the books hadn't been fiddled it would probably be PIIGGS, but never mind.

Chances are they all want the high levels of benefits but don't want to pay for them (or want someone else to).

Please add S S R to the title of this thread because that's what's coming down the tracks. Unless the Krauts and the Frogs manage to run the train into the buffers even before 31Jan.

Wait till they've got home from the pub and wake up to this particular headache, then they might start staring wistfully across the Oirish Sea at the recent escapee? (I hope!)

Remember the Brexit Campaign's Project Fear?

Remember the Remoaners claiming that if the UK leaves the EU then scads of Companies would leave the UK and rebase in the EU?

Remember that?

Today Royal Dutch Shell has declared that they will dissolve that identity and remove to London. :))

That bastard Henri Deterding must be rolling in his grave and Marcus Samuel must be rattling his bones with laughter.

That's really going to stick in the BBCs craw, when they report it.

Hope that Brussels took note of a member of the Russian government yesterday pronouncing that anyone who thinks that the war coming between Russia and the Ukraine will be confined to those countries is deluding him or her self. Meanwhile having built a fearfully expensive gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, Biden says the two countries can't use it.

Seems like a dangerous outbreak of Europeasants revolting, against Ursula Fond of Lying, may be gathering strength if some of the Eurocrats are calling for her head on a platter?

It is on YouTube as posted but for how long before it becomes a black rectangle when they discover it’s not supporting the great official narrative?

No Nigel Farages were hurt in this production... =))

Talk of an EU army makes me laugh, but cynically. We had one: the Western European Union, remember? Killed off initially by that one-eyed idiot who was our PM at the time pulling the UK out, the French and the Germans could not wait to plunge their knives into the WEUs back and shuting it down. We're still dealing today with the consequences for former staff. And Macron says he wants an EU army? I wouldn't scrape him off the sole of my boots.

I would have hoped that WW1 should have taught us the folly of forming military alliances in Europe.

Trade alliances: OK, but no more military alliances in Europe, please

A few years ago EU Member States agreed to provide compete transparency regarding beneficial owners of, for example, holding companies. Today's Financial Times reports that Spain does not disclose this information, France provides an edited summary, and Germany and Italy do not provide the information in a usesble form. Only - of course - the UK complied completely with the EU directive.

There are big economic problems coming the EU way.Such is all the result of Merkel and von der Leyen's management.

The bureaucrats were so obsessed with making the EU green and the one world order that they ignored the strategic importance of not putting all of their eggs in Putin's and Xi's basket. The citizens will pay dearly for it now.

America at least has the ability to make strategic changes to mitigate similar threats and weakness.

Germany has now warned its citizens that dire times are ahead for energy supplies as they cut back on Putin's money-maker. From Reuters:

"BERLIN/FRANKFURT (Reuters) -Germany triggered an emergency plan to manage gas supplies on Wednesday that could see Europe's largest economy ration power if a standoff over a Russian demand to pay for fuel with roubles disrupts or halts supplies.

Moscow's insistence on rouble payments for Russian gas that has met a third of Europe's annual energy needs has galvanised other European states: Greece called an emergency meeting of suppliers, the Dutch government said it would urge consumers to use less gas and the French energy regulator told consumers not to panic."

Should help EU 'solidarity'!

Farage made this speech way back in 2014.

The Ukraine issue was never about the USA it has always been about the EU and the EU's abuse of NATO.

And just a little reminder of how Merkel reacted when Trump indicated to Merkel that the US was being a little abused by the NATO Allies.

Washington
CNN

On Sunday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel uttered a single sentence that speaks to how fundamentally President Donald Trump has reshaped – and will continue to reshape – the world, and America’s place in it.

The times when we could completely rely on others are, to an extent, over,” Merkel said at a beer hall support her campaign.

While Merkel made no mention of Trump specifically, she made clear that her realization had come “in the last few days” – a time period which overlapped with a G7 meeting in which Trump blasted America’s traditional European allies over NATO obligations and made clear that he was more than willing to go it alone on climate change and trade.

Merkel says Europe can no longer rely on U.S. protection

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron gesture on the balcony of the town hall of Aachen

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that there are threats "at Europe's doorstep," and that U.S. protection is not implicitly reliable anymore, explaining that "t’s no longer the case that the United States will simply just protect us,” reports Newsweek.

The real issue was that Putin was allowed to get way with the annexation of the Crimea. Putin suspected that the West and NATO might just be a paper tiger thereafter.

The idea that Trump had anything useful to say about the Putin and the defense of Europe is laughable. The fact that Trump, who was somewhat envious of Putin's ability to govern imperiously and corruptly, for which Trump admired Putin, was only part of the equation. Trump's business empire was in hoc to a consortium of banks, including a byzantine series of loans that included Russian banks, with the primary creditor being Germany's very own, and very corrupt, Deutsche Bank. Trump's position on Europe, in fact marked the beginning of a significant waning of US power in the world, and his position apropos NATO just encouraged Putin in his adventurism, continuing the rot that had began to set in through Obama's, Europe's and NATO's failure to sanction Russia for the Crimean violation! The process of withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the Middle East instigated by Trump and disastrously continued by Biden, simply emboldened Putin.

As for the Farage, and his deluded acolytes, do they think that the UK is somehow stronger outside the EU bloc apropos Putin?
