This unfortunately does look like the end of the road for the Labour Party, although much of it's history is pretty disastrous, the 1970s, the deceit of Blair and the financial incompetence of Broon, the initial post war movement did set up a better society.

From the Guardian this morning the charmless front runner has explained exactly how she intends to deliver the coup de grace
Her approach echoes that of Jeremy Corbyn, whose leadership was focused on trying to build a socialist movement to help transform society. Long-Bailey said the next Labour leadership team “must not junk our values” but ought to change in order to “trust its members and be so much more than a group of politicians in parliament”.

By holding public meetings, Labour could have come up with “a set of popular remedies to deal with the three, linked crises our country faces: of democracy, the economy and the environment”, she said

As leader of the party, Long-Bailey said she would seek to create a “popular movement to turn the British state against the privatisers, big polluters and tax dodgers that have taken hold of our political system”.

Looks as though Mr Johnson could be in position for many years.

The other charmless front-runner, Lady Emily, has just been on MSM proclaiming how proud she is to have served in JC’s cabinet.

More “suicide notes”, copying the 1983 Labour Manifesto, now being put into the public domain.

I agree with another illustrious poster on this forum, healthy UK parliamentary democracy needs an effective opposition, at the current rate of Labour car-crashes we will be left looking at an autocratic Johnson administration without effective controls.

Political MCAS anyone?

“And the good news is” says Lady Emily “this campaign’s got 3 months to run”!

Suddenly I’ve lost the will to live.......

I've just been watching Wrong-Daily and Jumbo launching their campaigns. I cannot deny that they both rate highly for comedy, but its frightening to consider that people still hold these views in 2020. They have their supporters of course. When I'm parked by the newspapers in Waitrose Islington while Mrs OFSO does the Saturday shop, I am bemused by the fact that people buying the 'Guardian' outnumber people buying all the other papers together.

Jumbo Thornbury has started her bid to become leader of the remnants of the Labour Party,
Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry has insisted Prime Minister Boris Johnson has "a problem with women".
He has problems with women such as myself. He doesn't know what to do with me.
Suggestions please.

I suggest he treats them the same as all the other women in his life, but being careful not to cause breeding with this one.

"I am bemused by the fact that people buying the 'Guardian' outnumber people buying all the other papers together."

I believe the circulation of the Guardian is limited to Islington, Brighton University (not the University of Sussex), the LSE, and a handful of semi-literate lefties in Bolton or somewhere (where is Kak-n-Crap's caravan?).

Its (paper) circulation is 141,000, which is roughly 10% of the top three, Metro, Scum, and Daily Wail, although I'm not sure that the first counts as it's a freebie, whereas there are people stupid enough to pay for the Guardian. Its is number 12 out of 14 ranked by circulation.

One of the 'candidates' said :
"We don't want someone who will be a Jeremy Corbyn follower, because we want to win the next election."

Lifted from another forum.

Democracy in action - Lenin McCluskey style.
Copied and pasted from the Telegraph -otherwise its paywalled:

Len McCluskey has told Labour moderates they should quit the party now if they are not prepared to show loyalty to Rebecca Long-Bailey, the hard-Left favourite to succeed Jeremy Corbyn.

The Unite general secretary said that MPs who have threatened to leave Labour if the shadow business secretary is elected would be “better to clear out now”.

He also dismissed suggestions that Unite, Labour’s biggest backer, would have its influence reined in under a new leader, adding that those hoping for a change at the top were “deluding themselves”.

It comes after the Sun on Sunday reported that Ms Long-Bailey, who has been endorsed by Unite, faces an exodus of moderate Labour MPs if she wins the leadership contest.
The self delusion of the man who thinks he's the kingmaker continues.
It's always my fault - SWMBO

Another proposed policy in the longest suicide note in history. Wannabe Deputy Leadership contender Richard Burgon may have been over imbibing the Burgundy as he proposes an exciting new and improved democratic way for the UK to go to war next time it’s needed.
His proposal is that the Labour membership should be asked to vote in favour of military action should the need arise, unless we’ve already got a UN resolution saying so.
I can’t see this one flying but it probably appeals to all the peaceniks in the party and might gain him a few votes.
JeffTaylor YouTube “Richard Burgon and more Labour Party stupidity” says it all in Jeff’s normal caustic tones. Thank goodness they’re out of the loop for the foreseeable future, loopy being the appropriate description of this latest whizzo idea!

Charmer Starmer, he of the coiffured quiff (that word again!) and the perma-furrowed brow is now under suspicion of data theft in the dirty race to be the Labour gaffer.

Apparently Wrong-Daily’s lot are also under suspicion of ‘data-scraping’ of the database of members information.

Though I suppose in a female heavy shortlist the use of the word ‘members’ is questionable and possibly non-PC but I’ll leave that one to fester.......

It is with sadness that I notice this morning that the ghastly Jumbo Thornbury has dropped out of the leadership contest, her elevation to leader would have ensured at least two decades out of office. However we can take comfort in the fact that other contestants such as the robotic Becky from Accounts and the strange Starmer will also give the Tories a free reign until at least 2042, it is pleasant to reflect that I will in all likelihood never see another Labour Government.
That cheers me up even if it is raining cats and dogs this morning.

Was it 'Lady Emily's' snooty fox remark about white van man and his England flag which did the damage? There are party member peasants out there with long memories and she couldn't even generate union support as well.

No great loss to us the electorate but she will continue to decorate the opposition benches for some time to come and it will be interesting if we can detect a higher level of bitchiness from her towards her erstwhile competitors.

If Wrong-Daily did get the nod, I can just envisage Boris stood at his dispatch box, doing an impression of the Laughing Policeman, to every question she asks.

BM, you don't need to be white van man to remember that 'truth'.

Two truths: keep your trap shut when you have idle thoughts and keep your trap shut when you have had too much to drink.
