What struck me about everything he said was that he displayed a breathtaking absence of regret or contrition or apology.

I now understand why the man has been described as a psychopath. He came across as a sociopath too.
Having had the misfortune to have run into the man I can assure you that he is.

I have also met Nigel Farage who is an oleaginous rogue, but he enjoys a drink and is not clearly insane.

Never met either of them that I know of but do know the type.

However, what concerns me about this sorry affair is less the pecadillos of some government apparatchik and more the effect this has on two things I feel are important in this time of crisis:

1. The message on 'Stay home' etc has been diluted. The public will see this as a green light to make their own calls on what is right for them. In summary, they feel cheated.

2. Perhaps more importantly, we, the people, will lose even more faith and trust in the people who manage the affairs of this country. We have a couple of big issues coming up. One is managing the economic recovery of the country as we come out of this current crisis. The second is the Brexit negotiation.

This government is rapidly running out of political capital.

I was unsure as to whether to post this on the Darwin Awards thread but thought maybe it's more topical here;

Is there anyone out there with a stock of spare fish-tank cleaner tablets?
I wonder when POTUS might quietly cease his intake of malaria tabs in the light of recent widespread concern on the safety of such medication?
But it was reassuring to see a picture of the Iranian guvvment meeting which showed all present wearing fabric face masks except the Ayatollah chappie who obviously is immune from reception and transmission, of the virus that is!
It's enough to turn me back to religion if that is one of the confirmed benefits...

It might make a difference which religion, given the number of church people in the US who discovered that thoughts and prayers are not enough to protect them.

I'm a great fan of Dillie Keane of the outrageous Fascinating Aida - have seen them in the theatre several times. Here's a song written and sung by her just after the Cummings story broke.....

There is often a disparity between those who are capable of getting elected and those who are capable of using the power they gain wisely. Perhaps all rulers need an advisor or, at least, a fool in the classic sense. There are certainly many examples of powers behind the throne in English history so Cummings's position is nothing new.

Which came first, Boris or Cummings?

Cummings started out as SPAD to Gove from 2007 to 2014.

I had forgotten that. Could be lots of dirty water there. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-36679738

Fear is contagious.

Being near frightened people, can give you the fear.......

(The operative word here, is 'can').

I also have sensed a heightened 'anxiety' amongst people in my area - why?
