What is the point of this so called investigation? At the end of the day the Chinese are not going to let the truth out, and if they have learnt any lessons they are not going to change anything anyway. Surely what the rest of the world needs to do is come up with a way of preventing a repeat performance ever happening. Unfortunately I'm not sure that the rest of the world has the will or ability to do so. And unfortunately the Chinese know this. So let us all brace ourselves for the next nasty coming out of China.

US voices ‘deep concern’ over WHO’s Wuhan investigation

THE United States has “deep concerns” about the early findings of an expert investigation into the origins of the coronavirus in China and is asking Beijing for more information, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said yesterday.

The statement comes days after a World Health Organisation team returned from Wuhan, China – where the first cases of the virus were spotted – with no clear finding on its origin.

“We have deep concerns about the way in which the early findings of the Covid-19 investigation were communicated and questions about the process used to reach them,” Sullivan said.

“It is imperative that this report be independent, with expert findings free from intervention or alteration by the Chinese government,” he added. And he urged China to “make available its data from the earliest days of the outbreak”.

A simple question.
UK has vaccinated 15,000,000 people with 1st dose and 500,000 with the 2nd.
An EU country has vaccinated 1,500,000 with 1st dose and 1,000,000 with a 2nd.
Which is better?

In EU speak the EU country has vaccinated twice as many.

Politicians on various sides can argue the toss about how many, who, which groups, etc. Reaching the 15 million target within the timescale set is a magnificent achievement and great credit must go to those who took on the task and made it happen. Well done them.

AK, Covid is overriding the far more significant news, the huge advance in viral research. There is now the possibility of immunisation against not just a particular strain of virus but the central core, and not just this one but flu too.
That vaccination may be replaced with a pill.

These huge advances were of course enabled by throwing money at anything with a chance of working. In contrast, historical progress was always constrained by available funding.

The Daily Telegraph understands that the Government is also looking at making an exemption to the one-to-one outdoor meeting rule for children, which would allow grandparents to see their grandchildren again with a parent.

This does not compute.
As stated that could be 3 adults.
In our case, both sets of grandchildren have 3 sets of grandparents.
Assuming only related parent meets their parents that is 3x3 sets of adults. So it all adds up to lots of burst bubbles.

The BoJo circus appears to have failed again - according to the Times (paywalled), they have not checked the arrival procedures at Heathrow where inbound pax from the 'red list' countries are free to mix with all arriving passengers before they are 'carefully' segregated and taken to their hotels.................

Mrs OFSO was talking a few days ago to a friend in Berlin, a not unintelligent young man, who from the media there had the impression that the UK was failing in dealing with every aspect of Covid management including vaccination. He was amazed to hear of the numbers we have vaccinated, the 200 million more injections on order, and the 70% drop in the London death rate. None of this is being reported in Germany. I would not be surprised if the same is true of France. Spain I do not know about: Catalan TV is reporting without comment the UK numbers of vaccinations.

No Twist its true, the EU is ahead of the UK in percentage of population in receipt of 2 doses
I'm not clever enough to work out if the UK way will prevent more deaths than the EU's method percentage of population wise, but the statement is a fact

Bob, I stand by twisting, it is not fiddling but representing then in such a way as to make them more favourable to you.

In this case the premise is that 15,000,000 injections confer no benefit whereas a far smaller number of double injection is hugely beneficial but conveniently ignores the millions that have not had even a chance from one jab.

A new stat for you, the number of people in UK receiving their second dose doubled yesterday. True.

The detail is it doubled from 6,000 the day before to 12,000 yesterday. It's how you tell it.

Friends of ours in the UK have received instructions from the NHS that after vaccination they are to stay indoors until the fourth week of March to prevent the spread of Covid-19. And in Spain, regardless of how many negative test results they have over the next ten days, our friends must remain in strict quarantine for that period. I leave you to make your own comments....

My comments depend on the actual situation of your friends eg shielding? etc. It is not a normal request in the UK.

If you read HF in the Random thread you will see that is the letter he got too. It is for the extremely vulnerable.

Equally worrying is the extra 1.7 million they have now assessed as EV too. I think about half will have been picked up for jabs already but something like 900,000 are younger, BAME, obsese, diabetic etc.
