This morning's flight from Wuhan just landed at Heathrow. Passengers being told to isolate ? No.

Over the past few weeks, many of us likely missed getting a decent pint in the pub down the road.

But if you're in the Czech Republic, today's the day!

Bars and restaurants will be able to reopen their indoor premises this Monday.

It gets better though: the largest brewery in the country is using the day for a big PR stunt.

Every customer who orders a beer in any pub serving Pilsner Urquell on tap will receive a second one for free, Czech media are reporting.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Until a couple of weeks ago Wuhan had enjoyed a case rate of zero since the 3rd of April.

Then they had a small outbreak of 7 cases, all in the same apartment complex.

The government reaction was impressive. They are testing every man woman and child in the city. 11 million people: and they expect to achieve that in 10 days flat.

I suspect that if a Chinese government apparatchik had been caught driving 250 miles while knowingly infected and supposedly under lockdown he would be given a summary trial and immediately executed by firing squad and the widow would receive an invoice for the bullets.

Testing alone achieves nothing unless you know what to do with the positives, negatives, and the 30% who give an erroneous reading.

A sign outside our now-open tennis courts regarding Covid-19 precautions asks that "players only handle their own balls". Not posted in Friday Jokes as it's not a joke.

Right.

You need to do what the Chinese do/did and what the WHO has been saying for years.

You have to test; isolate; trace; test again; rinse; repeat. That's how the countries who have been successful in dealing with the virus have been successful.

You also need to slam down hard on arseholes who flout the Law.

This could make the Barnard Castle visit allegation a little tricky.

Can we please maintain the use of the correct nomenclature?

The County of Durham is normally called Co. Durham.
The City of Durham, is normally referred to as Durham City. It is not a football team!

In England you are fortunate to still have independent police forces. In Scotland that was abolished and a single police force is under the control of die Partei.

An independent police investigation can easily sort out whether Cummings made those side-trips to the Castle and to the bluebell wood.

ANPRS records will show exactly where his car was and when. His mobile phone will have been tracked and that geolocation data is available to the police.

I hope that he is prosecuted and that, if found guilty, he receives a sentence of exemplary severity. He has undoubtedly set back the lockdown campaign and that setback is likely to result in avoidable deaths.

I think he's going to have a great deal of difficulty in persuading non-stupid people that he lacks the organisational ability and financial resource to sort out child-minding arrangement within London.

There are, of course, many other questions; was there no-one nearer who could look after this prodigy should the Cummings fall ill with the black death?; if this plague had descended on the House of Dominic, was he of the opinion that the social care system in England (for which he is, presumably, responsible, as 'acting PM') was not able (or good enough) to take his child into care?; which bit of "If you or a member of your family is infected with the virus you should stay at home and self-isolate for 7 days" did he not understand, having drafted the rules? Finally why was he so different to the numerous parents in this country with similar concerns for their children?

All these prats, cynical politicians, the rabid media, anyone who has nothing more creative to do than complain while they are inconvenienced, even the people on this site who prefer to break down rather than build, all spending their time squashing bugs when the dragon is breaking the door down. Cummings may or may not have screwed up but there will be plenty of time to debrief after the emergency is dealt with, it is more important now that people remain focussed on the enemy. Get your f**in act together and save the executions for when people can crowd into the square together and watch.

South Africa's overall mortality rates went down over the first month of the lockdown due to a reduction in the number of murders, car accidents and alcohol related accidents... :))

Cummings fancies himself as some kind of latter day Robespierre tis true... I can see it now, the insouciant Cummings being led to the instrument of his doom, the tumbrels, the pustular pasty faces of the bubo wracked peasants, the menace of the ever present plague, the shrieking crones, the young women ripping their bodices off and taunting the accused with their pendulous breasts... the sound of knitting needles, the tinkle of Mr Wippy ice cream vans ... =))

I listened carefully to the entirety of Cummings's address to the media, all 70 minutes of it.

First, I accept his denial of the second sortie to Co Durham. It didn't happen.

Nevertheless, his 'explanation' for the daytrip jolly to Barnard Castle was clearly just *****.

What struck me about everything he said was that he displayed a breathtaking absence of regret or contrition or apology.

I now understand why the man has been described as a psychopath. He came across as a sociopath too.

I think that BoJo the Wonderclown needs to think very carefully about keeping this bastard on the payroll. Sure, every PM needs a strong character as an advisor. BLiar had Campbell and Mandybum. Attila the Hen had Whitelaw and famously said "Every Prime Minister needs a Willy". Nevertheless BoJo needs to dump this bastard, and quickly.

Er, yes, OFSO, you are right. Belay that thought while I rerun that and change it to:

"show a demure ankle"...
