the population immunity threshold. For Covid-19, it has been estimated that this threshold could be as low as 20 per cent or as high as 70 per cent. My estimate is that it’s likely to be somewhere in the middle, between 40 and 50 per cent.

Todays"Times" reports blood samples taken and frozen in 2018 showing immunity to Covid-19 by reason of other infections suggest between 20% and 50% of UK population have this immunity.

Mrs ex-A - I call on your greater medical knowledge! Are the reports in the article of the Oxford trial correct? I understood there was still some doubt about a spinal nerve reaction which has occurred twice, once possibly explained?

Seeing loss of smell and taste is supposed to be a symptom of this virus, I've made up my own home test kit.

Very good 4m, I chose to do something similar over a period of days, you never know when the bug is going to creep up on you so you have to test daily. A nice curry one day, steak grilled with slaverings of Lee and Perrins the next (a weakness of mine), a regular dose of Sake in the evening. To be safe you have to be prepared to keep the tests going for weeks.

I have read other articles which lead me to believe that the research in Oxford has been continued. And I'm sure all the relevant protocols are being followed. It is worth remembering that all medications carry potential adverse reactions, just look at the leaflet which comes in any packet of pills. The data is the result of drug trials such as the ones being performed in order to provide a safe vaccine. As to how effective any of these vaccines will be is another question. As a baby I was vaccinated against whooping cough, but at the age of 13 I still went down with a 'mild' dose of it. But at least it didn't kill me off.

Didn't they find that the adverse reaction occurred in someone that already had a problem?

Of course that is a flag that shows the vaccine is not suitable for all. I think I read that it could react to chemotherapy treatment for instance.

To my mind that suggests that it might be suitable for fit people but those with complications might not be cleared.
