Heard that a friend of a friend has a bad case of pneumonia, his Dr. wants to hospitalise him, but cannot find a hospital bed anywhere in Gauteng.
Guateng particularly badly hit with the current wave in ZA :((

Just been out to buy some booze. This for the simple reason we were running low.

The bottle store (SA Offy) was like a rugby scrum! Apparently our President is addressing us tonight and everyone is expecting another booze ban [-X

So I invested rather heavily.
Obviously your president is an amateur in these matters. When we were 100% locked down the only stores allowed to be open were groceries and booze shops because booze shops are government owned. There was never any question of closing them down. They are deemed "essential".
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".

I don't think that they would dare pull another booze ban here. We do however have some complicated rules which no one can keep up with and at times are ignoring anyway. :YMPARTY:

At the moment Joe public can buy booze from liquor shops Mon-Fri. Businesses can buy from wholesalers Mon-Sat. Bars and restaurants can only sell booze Mon-Fri for take away only. It is against the law to drink in a public place, so basically along with the 10pm to 4am curfew the powers that be basically want everyone to get drunk at home. :YMPARTY: :D

Talking about doing away with the requirement for masks in the 'open air' here. Remember the WHO edict last year? "In the open air you have to stand closer to a person shedding the virus than 1.5 metres for 15 minutes or longer to be at risk of catching it."

OFSO, that will no doubt be another gem for the history books. What about 'coughs and sneezes spread diseazes'.

I think that one stood the test of time and applies to Covid too.

We've held the first luncheon for months today. The participants all travelled by car to Spain across international borders. All complied with the posted regulations, paperwork, vaccinations and tests. None were asked at any point about the tests or anything else relating to Covid, although the Englishman had his passport stamped on entering Spain by sea.

It seems that a promising new vaccine Novavax, is being prepared for distribution in Barnard Castle. So THAT was what Scummings was up to..........................

Barnard Castle used to be a quiet little place that had a lovely museum.

Previously only known as where Rob Andrew went to school, now everyone knows of it!

Well what a surprise......What do you expect from a bunch of corrupt lying bass'turds.
Covid modelling that pushed back June 21 was based on out-of-date data
Government published figures to support pushing back ‘Freedom Day’ despite knowing estimates of vaccine effectiveness were incorrect.

An SMS from CatSalut today, second vaccinations booked for next Wednesday, 22 days after the first. Suddenly they have got their act together....

Telegraph expose yesterday showed how Witty's graphics might have been accurate but was carefully selected to show the January and May/June shapes were the same in percentage terms but the latter was virtually flat in numbers terms.

Anyone knows how to read a graph can see that the UK-wide figure has been on the upward slope since mid-May.

I dunno why the UK government became fixated on the 21st of June. That date was certainly not based on science, other than perhaps the date of the Summer Solstice.

Before the pandemic, we (the village) held a 'fair' in the central marketplace on the Thursday closest to the summer solstice, but this has been cancelled since the beginning of the 'emergency'.

Current weather is 19/20 degC, low prospect of precipitation and low wind.

France and Andorra have now scrapped the requirement for wearing masks in the open air. Catalunia is today discussing following this change.

It's actually very simple and quite logical. It is 5 weeks after May 17th. It was declared that the 5 weeks would be a suitable time to examine the progress.

I dunno.... masks have their good points. I queued for an hour this morning at the post office, then the (I think) very pretty and friendly young lady called me over. The one who always deals with me. I think she fancies me, but hasn't seen me without a mask yet.

It takes no more than five consecutive days to recognise the slope and scale of a major trend.

It really doesn't take five weeks for even the most willfully dunderheaded to recognise that the pandemic is running out of control.

Image

Bearing in mind that the WHO's own definition of a pandemic out of control is a weekly number of 50 per hundred thousand, take a look at how bad the thing is in urban Scotland:

Image

My nearest city, Edinburgh, which happens to have been my original home town, has the appalling rate of 207 per hundred thousand. Dundee is even worse. Over 300 per hundred thousand.

Of course the weekly average data is "out of date". That's the nature of weekly stats.
