I guess Tik-Tok qualifies as made in China?

Re my post # 366 in this thread, is it possible that the sound of a gigantic tick-tock is being noticed in the 3 Gorges dam area?

China record floods wet feet of Leshan Giant Buddha https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-53831271

But of course the eggspurts who gave the go-ahead on this project know better, so nothing to see here, move along and join the queue for bat and pangolin soup please!

Three Gorges dam is designed to handle 100 cumecs.

Peak inflow in the present flood is 75 cumecs and they are discharging 50 cumecs.

The dam can easily handle much much more than this current flood condition.

Don't worry. The sky is not going to fall in and the dam ain't gonna collapse.

The surplus will be retained for controlled release to agriculture in case there's a drought in the next few years, as is likely in view of anthropogenic climate change.

U P, you concentrate on the control of water flows but IIRC from the video in post #366, there remain concerns at the geological effects of not only the rise in water levels but the effect of cyclical movements of the water loading on the surrounding geology.

Revisit the video and pick it up at about the 10 minute mark and follow the text until the end.

And thank you for introducing me to the word ‘cumec’, being an Imperial measurement educated skule boy I never did understand the Frog way of physics measurement. Now another word enters my lexicon thanks to O-N!

Though I still have not got a clue what a fecking joule is and will be happy to die in ignorance of SI... :-w

A Joule is easy, dissipating one watt of power for one second.

The Joule was also an attempt to build an electric car in SA.

It was a gigantic con trick to get taxpayers cash from a stupid government.

The car had absolutely Zero unique characteristics or benefits over any other electric vehicle..

Another opinion.

At least the last show of an aircraft was not a 737Max, that would have been tasteless and tactless?! :))

Hi-tech equivalent of fireworks? Less noise and re-usable.

Imagine that lot each carrying a small bomb. Mass drone attacks will surely be a prominent feature in any future wars.

Funnily enough, watched a movie called 'Angel has fallen' on Amazon on Saturday. Did just that.

The extent of the range would be severely limited for serious 'warfare'.

Still, the lot and puter would likely fit easily in a bus sized vehicle.

Very pretty. Downside is that it would only be properly viewable from one location whereas fireworks are omnidirectional.

Most of the figures they make are 3-D and thus omnidirectional. It's only the lettering formations which need to be viewed from a particular side and they can be rotated.

The drawback I can see for these things to replace major fireworks events such as Edinburgh's Hogmanay Party is that you need a muster area for launch/landing and a clear area under the main body of the swarm to allow for the inevitable crashing drones to fall to Earth safely. I notice that these things tend to be held over a major water body.

Can you imagine the hassle of trying to persuade the UK CAA to award a Display Authorisation for a 2,000 drone formation? :-B

“UK CAA to award a Display Authorisation for a 2,000 drone formation?”

They regularly do so for starling murmurations, though no squawk is allocated to the formation, nor any FP submitted. :))

Bought some masks today. Made in China. So the buggers first give us the plague and then sell us the means for not catching it....
