Pontious.
Thanks for the counterpoint.
In this totalitarian state of which you speak, where does the money to pay people come from?

Totalitarian states do earn from state owned farms and industry, they will even earn from trade if America allows it.
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

It's becoming clear that it's the private sector that will bear the brunt of the upcoming recession.
The Public sector, will be unaffected. That's the NHS, Teachers,Government and Council workers, the Armed Forces etc.
But at which point will the groaning burden on the private sector become unbearable?
When will the diminishing number of true taxpayers find themselves unable to fund the masses who work, in one way or another, for the state?

That's the key question. The follow on is, "What will people relying on state funds do when and if those funds dry up? My advice is save your money for that rainy day. Some of it should be in gold I believe. When will the diminishing number of true taxpayers find themselves unable to fund the masses who work, in one way or another, for the state?

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
Never.
Take the US as an extreme example. Their banksters have recently conjured six and a half Trillion dollars of puff-money out of thin air. This week the Fed has indicated that there's another half-Trillion on its way and that any number of Trillions will follow.
The banksters don't need the middle classes any more. Redundant. They can obtain Goods from efficiently producing foreign countries. They can obtain Services from severely underpaid untermenschen.
They've suddenly realised that if you can create $7Trn out of thin air at the push of a computer button, you really don't need the $3.5Trn in annual taxes that the proles provide them with. Ergo: no need for the proles.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
Real money most certainly does exist. It's fiat currency which does not exist.
Fiat currency is somebody's debt, ie a promise to do some kind of work at some time in the future. It's only as good as the prospect of that person actually keeping the promise.
The US national debt stands at $204,307 per taxpayer. There is zero prospect of any of those taxpayers ever honouring that debt, so it's highly questionable that the $25Trn actually exists.
Real money, such as gold or Bitcoin, represents actual real work which really has been done. Not some airyfairy empty promise of future work. That what makes it real money.
The rate at which Chump's kleptocrats are handing eachother hundreds of billions of empty dollars makes it now completely inevitable that the dollar will collapse.

It seems that, if you include the 'furloughed' that about 50% now 'work' for the State in the U.K.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
Who pays and who is paid is a very good question.
Here’s a short potted history of tax which I hope will make clear where we are and whence we came;
Anything to break the mind-numbing monotony of Covid obsession, though it is mentioned and how much more we’re going to have to pay for destroying significant portions of our economies.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
I see all those who used to be tax payers, and worked for Hertz Car rentals are no longer tax payers....
They've filed for bankruptcy.
They must have employed many thousands.

As of 2018, the company had revenues of US$9.5 billion, assets of US$21.3 billion, and 38,000 employees.

I, for one, will not weep for the demise of Hertz.
I just wish that the whole of 'em, especially including the non-US airport shower of shite, collapse and go to Hell.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
Are not most of the none-USA operations of Hertz, franchises?
The whole operation is something of a money moving operation, with all of their cars being leased, not company owned.

Yes, but I still hate Hertz with a vengeance, even 37 years after they criminally and negligently attempted to fukk me over in a criminal way. Bastards!
I hope they all rot in Hell.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
Hertz USA have filed for bankruptcy protection. This will not affect their operations at this point, nor will it affect the majority of their locations which are franchises. So rather than gloating over yet more potential job losses, let's keep a sense of perspective.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
Indeed.
It seems that only the US and Canada are affected anyway, so not as bad as it seemed.
I was just amazed at such a long established and huge company getting in the doo-doo.

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
I hired a car from Hertz back in South Africa (a franchise I believe) in 2013 and was somewhat nonplussed during my stay to get a security call on my UK mobile from NatWest Master Card to say that an attempt had been made to purchase six 1st class air tickets from Johannesburg to London Heathrow using my card number.
The transaction was traced through to a Hertz employee.
Caveat emptor as they say!

It might have cost you less than a couple of scratches on the car!

Re: Who pays tax, and who is paid from tax?
It seems that if we include those presently paid by the Governments furlough scheme, that about 50% of the population are now paid by the State.
To me this means that the other half need to make enough to pay for everybody!
