Awful and tragic as the unwarranted killing of Breonna Taylor is and the police should be investigated and prosecuted, I see the family is to receive $12 million compensation. Awards of that magnitude are like winning the lottery.

Parents lose adult children for many reasons, they may be soldiers or airmen, police, traffic accidents, illness and suicide, and it is right that dependents get financial support as just compensation but non-dependents, should they get such huge awards?
