I had a Dutch girlfriend who lived and worked in Amsterdam who was deluded enough to want to marry me, much to my horror. Maybe she appreciated the fact that I spoke passable Dutch albeit with an Afrikaans mangling here and there.

She had the most extraordinary bad temper as I discovered one afternoon as she was driving us on the motorway to Hilversum when we disagreed on some minor point and she went a funny puce colour, slammed the brakes on in the fast lane, came to a halt and started castigating me in Dutch so ancient that I can only guess at the meaning of some of the insults. I must admit I was terrified as hooting cars rushed by as the tirade continued punctuated by words like 'drit en poepzak' etc! =))

After all that I did what any sensible bloke would do, I ran away!

Belinda this is for you. Ek is heeltemal jammer!
