National Trust Lunatics

#1 Post by om15 » Tue Jan 12, 2021 7:10 pm

Some time ago I notified the National Trust that I would not be renewing my membership this year, I recieved a very polite email offering me 25% off the renewal fee and courteously thanking me for my support, I answered thus
Dear XXXXXX,

Thank you for your email regarding my continuing membership of the National Trust, my decision to leave after twenty four years of membership is not due to covid or financial matters.

I am simply not happy to financially support an organisation that is increasingly becoming involved in political (or "woke") activities, particularly the recent support given to the BLM group, that is not what I joined the National Trust to support. Therefore my cancellation of membership will be carried out at the renewal date in April 2021.

Best Regards,

I see that my response was a wasted effort when I read this article

Om15, I didn't bother. I just cancelled my direct debit. No response.

I don't see us visiting anywhere this side of summer, time to renew them we might give English Heritage first dibs.

We've also cancelled our direct debit. The NT has truly lost its direction. I wonder if it is actually compromising its status as a charity by indulging in political activities.

4ma, RSPCA is another. They have abandoned Newton's Manor too. We saw a few cars there for half a day but no attempt to keep the place aired and ventilated.

They have plans to improve the cafe and classrooms. An ideal opportunity but completely ignored. Access to the disabled car park is like the hospital and only because a local farmer cut their hedge is the footpath accessible. They had to be badgered to send people over from Belton to cut the footpath growth: it rained, they stopped never to return.

I don't bother with the RSPCA either. I tried to contact them over an injured heron on me canal - it had a broken wing. They didn't want to know - it was a wild animal and it might not be where I reported it to be when they arrived on scene. No doubt if I wanted to report the local hunt they would have been all over it like a nasty rash.

RSPCA in Hull had the kennels destroyed and asked head office for help rebuilding. The response was that they didn't give money for that and they would have to raise it themselves. The local rag investigated and said that Head Office had a few hundred million pounds available but didn't like spending it. They lost a lot of subscriptions that week from the locals.
