A supposed climate protester has finally met his match in thumbing his nose at the law,he previously has been given fines, let off with warnings etc. for his
disrupting peoples lives with his supposed climate protesting, but this magistrate was not of the forgiving kind.

One less eco-loony to put up with, for a while.

But what of the rest of the millions of deluded loonies?

Now he can play eco mummies and daddies in eco prison.

I suspect he might feel a little less eco righteous as he gets a nice eco pumping from his non eco room mate.

You don't know what the temperature was ten thousand years ago. We didn't have an accurate thermometer until 200 years ago (no comments from the JH peanut gallery if it was 210 years ago). We don't have records and we didn't have scardy cats fretting over one tenth of a degree and calling it a "climate emergency". The climate changes and it will continue to do so.
Au contraire!

We know quite exactly what the relationship is between CO2/temperature/sealevel. Air bubbles in ice-cores record the CO2 ppm very exactly. The age of the water surrounding those bubble can be age-calibrated very accurately by measuring the ratio of two isotopes of water which radioactively decompose at different but known rates.

That data is also matched to tree rings patterns. Each tree ring for each year has a very distinctive pattern which is directly related to growing conditions in that year. It's called dendrochronology. Tree ring cores which overlap eachother in time can be used to make a timeline going back tens of thousands of year, year by year. Non-climate events, such as dust-pall cold winters/summers being induced by very major volcanic eruptions can be factored in too by looking at sand deposition strata. They too can be dated very precisely.

The entire dataset shows unequivocally what the temperature was; and what the CO2 level was in each of those recorded years.

That's how the data shown in Attenborough's graph was obtained.

Ten thousand years ain't much. Next time you drive across Rannoch Moor, stop in a layby and wander around looking at peat hags which have been exposed by erosion. Within a few minutes you are bound to find old tree stumps embedded in the peat. Dry 'em out and they burn beautifully in a camp fire, but first look at the tree rings by cutting across the stump. Compare your sample to the tree ring database and you will be able to date your sample quite accurately. When I did that I found that my camp fire sticks had been 9,000 years old when I burned them.

Science is fascinating. Denial of science is dull and stultifying.

Accepting the science, I would question to data range. Today we can measure whatever, wherever, to incredible accuracy. When it comes to historical data, there is a lack of ice cores on many parts. There is a lack of trees on other places. Volcanic deposition is not uniform. We are inevitably extrapolating the specific to the ubiquitous.

The time scale is different too. What is a centennial trend is but a bare tick on a 10,000 year scale.

The data really does go back 10,000 years and more.

CO2 ppm in the atmosphere is pan-global, not parochial.

There is no lack of ice cores. Ice-cores from the Arctic show the same global data as those from the Antarctic. They don't differ because they are both recording global atmospheric conditions.

Sure, some sedimentary horizons are recorded locally of what are, in global terms, somewhat localised events. The Storegga Slide tsunami, for example. Others are global, such as the global fallout from that Krakatoa geofart which smothered the Earth in the 6th century.

The data is there. That's not the problem. The problem is that we are not using the science sufficiently to prevent the consequences of what we now know. We are still being silly buggers by burning valuable and irreplaceable hydrocarbons to make heat and electricity and to make silly mechanical contraptions such as infernal combustion engines make noise and smoke and other forms of pollution. That's where we are still going wrong.

Seems we have something else to worry about. :-o ~X( :-?

Earth's core cooling faster than previously thought, researchers say
The planet's core has been cooling for billions of years but perhaps "more rapidly than expected," which could expedite the end of life on Earth — though not for quite a while.

Earth's core is cooling at rates faster than previously thought, which could speed the planet's inevitable march toward inhabitability millions or billions of years from now, researchers said this week.

Earth's interior has been gradually cooling for the entirety of its 4.5 billion-year existence — a generally helpful pattern as the planet evolved into its current green paradise, where humans have thrived for the past 200,000 or so years.

"This perspective raises the question as to how fast the Earth has been losing heat throughout the Earth's history, which directly links to the fundamental question on how long the Earth will remain dynamically active," the scientists wrote in a paper published in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

But just how quickly this process has been happening is the subject of ongoing research.

A group of scientists studied bridgmanite, a common conductive mineral that is found between the Earth’s core and mantle.

They found that it’s 1.5 times more conductive than previously believed, meaning Earth’s cooling process might also be faster than previously thought.

“We found the bulk thermal conductivity at core-mantle boundary becomes 1.5 times higher than the conventionally assumed value, which supports higher heat flow from core, hence more vigorous mantle convection than expected,” researchers added.

“Results suggest the mantle is more efficiently cooled, which would ultimately weaken many tectonic activities driven by the mantle convection more rapidly than expected from conventionally believed thermal conduction behavior."

When the planet goes cold, it'll lose its magnetic field, which shields Earth from harmful cosmic radiation. At that point, Earth would become a sterile, uninhabitable rock.

The researchers didn't hazard a guess as to how many more years life on Earth could exist.

A 2013 projection by Andrew Rushby of the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom pegged Earth's viability for life to be good for another 1.75 billion to 3.25 billion years, assuming there's no nuclear holocaust, rogue asteroid or other unforeseen disaster.

Seems like a good argument for allowing global warming to continue. Fire up the SUVs.

Except when you consider the difference in cooling rate for a couple of degrees rise, it's not going to make much difference. The Earth's core is at about 5400C, so the cooling rate until the iron solidifies (somewhere around 1500C) will be virtually unchanged.

Indeed, yet we are panicking over a fraction of a degree raise in average temperature over 200 years and calling it it "climate emergency" and some such.

For other reasons. The fears are plausible and the result could well be catastrophic. The only way to confirm it is to cause it to happen, by which time it's probably too late because the positive feedback involved is going to make it necessary to haul back quite a way before it could be reversed.
