Fox.
Thanks again for your lucid response to what is clearly a very complicated issue- despite it being simplified into 'CO2 up, temperature up' for mass consumption.

Thanks also to boac for his attempts to sarcastically portray me as a 'skygod', unable to read a graph. I thought personal insults were things he was here to moderate, not initiate?

IMHO, the whole AGW 'thing' is based on a fundamental misconception, which is, that WE are in charge of the Climate.

To me, it looks more likely that the Sun (which my ATPL instructor told me) is in charge of, and drives, all weather- and by inference, Climate.

The arrogance of mankind, in stating that it is US in charge- and we are going to keep it like it was in 1950- despite knowing that warm periods and ice ages clearly happen naturally- is truly breathtaking.

But then, human stupidity has always been a thing.

Again, like your stable-mate, you are confusing me, a member, with admin2, the site moderator. Certainly not an insult - I thought you were once a Sky God (obviously wrong). I merely saw your surprising inability to read a graph and commented on it

CO2 up. temperature up is true, if change in CO2 is the only factor.
But it isn't.
And if you use it as the main factor in the models (and they do), and the models don't work (and they don't),
then other factors are clearly important.
And even after decades of trying to adjust a myriad of compensation factors to try to make the models work, they've failed.
Which means they don't understand the basic underlying factors and their interrelationships.

Something bothered me about this statement so I consulted my psycho therapist (note the split words!?) and we came to the conclusion that, in addition to my other syndromes, I am obviously suffering from this one referenced, so thank goodness that’s sorted;

I strongly advise anyone here who believes they may be suffering from this disorder to immediately seek professional medical attention as it really is an unreal, terrifying and confusing place in which to discover oneself! :-o :)) =))

At the risk of sending BM and AK into yet another obsessive depressive spin cycle I have to confirm we have multiple multiple 'personalities' amongst our members.

I seem to recall many years ago during Meterology classes for my licence, atmospheric composition was 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and 1% was every other gas, Radon, CO2, Neon etc etc.
Recent research, ratios the same.
Snowing today west of Sydney, in November!, thats global warming for you.
Professor of climatology Tim Flannery told us 10 years ago our Dams would never be full again, there are shipping containers floating down the streets of rural towns, my local Dam has spilled (spectacularly), about 5 times this year alone!

Professor of climatology Tim Flannery
Ummm....Fliegs; Unless I'm very much mistaken, prof (Flim)Flannery is actually a Professor of Palaeontology; ie a Prof. of fossils etc.

What connection to the study of Climate that has is way beyond my ken! Struth!!! I'm what the Yanks would call a High School dropout anyway!

I do believe you have the right guy, maybe operating outside his field of expertise but very vocal on climate change, and spectacularly wrong as far as rainfall in Australia, as is very well shown this last 12 months.

Is it possible that Prof Tim has spelt his name wrongly?

Oh dear, further bad news on the climate from the Antarctic, this time it’s a drop in temperature by half of one degree C compared with the same day in 1987!

https://dailysceptic.org/2022/11/20/sou ... peratures/

Maybe we can get some primus stoves out there in a military transport aircraft to prevent further cooling to prevent/postpone whichever forecast modelled disaster will fill newsprint and broadcast hours and loadsa clickbait for the interweb grockles?

Please don’t publicise this as it may jeopardise the jobs of those who make their living from stoking the flames of Climate Change, as they might look somewhat foolish were it demonstrated they were using Neil Ferguson software and ‘intelligence’ to flog their wares and their panicmongering. :-w

Quite a good (and short - 3 min read) piece here looking at the UHI effect in Canada.
It's particularly important as Canada has a large area, yet there are few official temperature stations and many of them are in urban areas (mostly airports). This leads to a substantial overestimate for the warming of Canada as a whole.
Of course, fixing a failed rural temperature station in a Canadian winter is a problem, which is why the government sticks with urban ones. As yet, the government is unwilling to use any unofficial ones, or expand the current ones, or even maintain the existing ones properly. The simple fact is that they have built a case on poor evidence, and the last thing they want is good evidence that might contradict that.

I'm sure by now, the penny must be dropping as it becomes ever clearer that our forecasting exaggerates the increase.

As we have no idea (unless the scientists are clairvoyant) what temp change would have taken place had we been absent, I really don't understand how they arrived at todays near hysterical position?

We know the temp changes- it never stops. The observed change is difficult to measure- not very big, and skewed by the UHI effect and inaccurate measuring. We'd clearly have to subtract the unknown 'natural' warming (or cooling) from what we have done our best to measure, to reveal the fraction caused by us- an impossible calculation.

As we are emerging from an ice age, I would have thought seeing it get a little warmer was pretty much what we'd expect. The non-anthropogenic trend must surely be up- just as Southern England continues to rise physically now that the weight of ice has melted...

It seems to me that the gravy train is now moving pretty fast and nobody has much interest in slowing it down, but an entire industry is trying to speed it up.

A K sez:- “It seems to me that the gravy train is now moving pretty fast and nobody has much interest in slowing it down, but an entire industry is trying to speed it up.”

+100 (and that in degrees Fahrenheit just to add confusion!)

The gravy train is just that, let’s make a fast buck before the sheeple wake up when they realise how much of the shock horror temperature rises are due to UHI skewed readings.

The Climate Change ‘crisis’ is suspiciously similar to the ‘plague’, whose foundations are/were constructed on the sandbank of ‘tests’ of dubious reliability and the rushed rollout of the magical silver bullet specifically designed to make squillions of dollars for BigPharma, whilst they could get away with it. :YMPARTY:

Remember “Follow the Money” and it all becomes clear as illustrated by the so-called reparations to Third World countries, dreamt up at CoP27, who also benefitted from the Industrial Revolution engineered by those nasty white privilege folks.

The Tonga volcano puts things like open fires and diesel vehicles into perspective so I await another of WEF’s dastardly plans, similar to the *space* construction designed to shade the Earth from solar warming, involving gigantic champagne corks inserted into potential eruption sites like mechanical suppositories.

But of course many involved in the Climate Crisis scam are well acquainted with champagne corks.... ~X(

The Lady formerly known as Mrs Pinky, who is by no means whatsoever a follower of Politics in any way, shape, size or form whatsoever, upon hearing of the abovementioned resolution at the CoP27 gabfest made a somewhat profound (for her) statement.

"Just sounds like a Socialist wealth re-distribution scheme to me.." :-?

More shock horror info is leaking out about the accuracy of measurements which imply our imminent mass barbecuing.

I would appear that the fearmongers have either forgotten about UHI or are deliberately ignoring it as it defeats their campaign to milk more money from Project Fear Mk2;

https://dailysceptic.org/2022/11/22/sum ... ince-1978/

And this reference sounds like there have been Neil Ferguson-type modelling and 'interpolation' exercises done in order to hype the case;

https://everythingclimate.com/measuring ... e-process/

But when this gets out it means MSM won't be able to flog the programs dominated by Attenbore and Thumberg. :-q

Fancy a 'data smoothie' anyone?

Canada's Federal Government has just decided that the Carbon Tax refund schemes of the smaller provinces no longer meet their requirements.
As such, all the citizens of same will now receive a quarterly tax rebate to spend how they wish (in carbon terms).
On balance, they claim the majority of households will get more back than they pay in carbon taxes (e.g. on fuel).

Here's how it works out for me.
My Provincial Government was giving me 15% of the carbon tax amount it collected, as a rebate, and was spending the rest on subsidies, and indeed 100% grants, to switch to "cleaner" power sources.
In practice, this means paying people with oil-fired furnaces to switch to heat pumps.
We'll skip over that heat pumps are very little use when it's below -18, and it sometimes hits -37 here.
Except, they aren't doing.
Why on Earth would people not take a 100% grant, you ask yourselves.
Here's how it goes down.
At first, there were $2,000 grants to get heat pumps installed.
Then $3,000, then 50% of costs.
Lots of people got heat pumps, but not via the government.
The government obliged you to use a certified installer.
A typical cost would be $5,800 via a certified installer, of which the customer paid $2,900.
But you could pick up the same heat pump off Amazon for $1,250. Stick it on a base you made yourself and do your own mounting, then give a certified technician $70 cash-in-hand to check the connections and charge it with refrigerant.
This is farming country. Everyone AND their dog (well, maybe not golden retrievers, but all the other breeds) can build basic structures that last.
Even if you paid a contractor to install it, the total cost came in under $2,000.
So, why use the government, which would cost you $900-$1,680 more??
Well, of course, the people getting the grants are people who don't work for a living.
The government will just up their payments one way or another to match the difference.

Now the government has a 100% rebate of costs. Almost nobody's interested, except the freebie crowd.
The catches are:

You must use a certified, approved installer.
There's you thinking certification was approval.
Oh, no, no, no, no, no. :))
The government needs to ensure its mates get a cut.

And The Killer, buried in the small print, is that you agree to have the installation inspected by the Government.
You have a certified, approved installer, but it still needs a government inspection....riiiiiight
Literally nobody here is that stupid.
The government will doubtless, as a result of the inspection, up your property tax.
They'll have their grant back in 5 years and you'll be paying increased property tax ever after.

So, now I will get my rebate direct from the Feds.
That rebate is half what my Provincial government could have given me.
But it's also 3x what my Provincial government was giving me.
Where'd the other half go?
I'd ask the Prime Minister, but he's probably on holiday in the Caribbean again.
