Myanmar - that'll larn him!
Kyaw Zwar Minn, Myanmar’s ambassador to Britain, said he was locked out of the embassy in London on Wednesday, apparently for criticizing the Burmese military, which staged a coup in February

I feel that an appeal for asylum in the UK is in the offing in this case!

Probably popped out for some milk and forgot to put the door on the latch.
Re: Myanmar - that'll larn him!
As he is the accredited ambassador, couldn't he ask for UK government assistance in taking the embassy back into his control?

Providing active support would require the consent of the Burmese government. In view of the fact that it's a military dictatorship over there, I doubt that such consent would be forthcoming.
In the unlikely event that such a request were to be made by the Burmese, there's an Army unit who would make pretty short work of taking the place over and pissing off back to a former RAF station in Western England for a ginormous pissup.

.........and, of course, he almost certainly no longer "is the accredited ambassador," but just some Burmese guy wandering around on the pavement.

Doesn't he keep the job until the next guy presents his credentials to HMQ?

A moot point. I believe that action establishes the Queen's acceptance of the Ambassador. I think at the moment there is effectively no Ambassador.ian wrote:Doesn't he keep the job until the next guy presents his credentials to HMQ?

The diplomatic world is a minefield of protocol. (I wanted to write; The diplomatic world is a protocolic minefield. Is protocolic a word? It sorta sounds right to me!)
An oddity that I am aware of. In the UK, the Foreign Secretary, select and appoints our Ambassadors/High Commissioners. But if the same Foreign Sec. visits a foreign country, and in company of the same Ambassadors/High Commissioner, visits the foreign Head of State, the Ambassadors/High Commissioner is higher in the pecking order than the Foreign Sec. that appointed him.
The logic being that the Ambassadors/High Commissioner, represents HMQ, but the Foreign Sec. represents the Government, or the PM.

I met Rex Hunt in Government House, lovely chap. He and his wife really got into the spirit of the Governorship. Also met several Governors in Guernsey.
Ascension Island didn't run to a Governor but had a Resident. The Residence was a very impressive house on Green Mountain.
