It is apparent you do not know much about it...
There is a lot that I do not know much about ..............a fact brought home to me just recently when I was allowed to sit in the hot seat, surrounded by instruments and electronic displays that I could barely imagine the utility of, fuel quantities, hydraulic pressures, engine temperatures, GPS, etc etc. Clusters of levers and a windscreen providing a commanding view while the entire environment was dominated by the sound and soft vibrations of barely imaginable raw power, and that was

only on my brother's new tractor.

One definitely sits 'in' not 'on' a seat such as this.

Sitting in such seats might be a thing of the past in the near future...

John Hill - Although I spent my entire career in the aviation industry I do not claim to be an aviator.
NB I did not say you were! It is apparent you do not know much about it, but you are truly a diamond amongst WE AVIATORS for the insight you offer.
Surely those who are not naval types cannot claim to be aviators, with even the best of the rest, just being mere pudknockers... =)) ;)))

Although these guys might argue that...

Maybe, back in the early 70's when the 4040 was the hottest CPU chip available I toyed with the idea 'self driving' cultivating machines. The idea was based on the principles of hyperbolic radio navigation systems except ours would be operating on VHF and referenced to two low power beacon transmitters. I researched and wrote it up as best I could and passed the idea in front of a few local farmers only to be told that "John, you have to understand that it is becoming a pleasure to drive the tractor'.

Just read an article stating that a lot of unemployed aeroplane drivers found good jobs, and perhaps a new career ,monitoring instruments in Agricultural machinery. But after watching the video in post 604 they may soon be looking for another way to earn a dollar.

Did not specify that in the article, but 2 dimensions rather than 3 must make it a bit more relaxing.

Tractor driving involves a bit more than just getting to where you are going.

Turkey now into Kabul airport working with Qatar. The Taliban claim the US forces 'damaged' the airport radars when they left. That's helpful!

"Mujahid said the teams are working on repairing the radars because, when United States troops left the airport last month, they damaged many parts of the airport."

International flights have now been approved by The Taliban subject to the following Notam

Q) OAKX/QAFXX/I/B /E /000/999/000
A) OAKB
B) 21/09/06 10:45 C) 21/12/03 23:59
E) FOLLOWING NOTAM IS ISSUED ON REQUEST OF KABUL INT'L NOTAM OFFICE, AFGHANISTAN. AFGHANISTAN FIR IS UNCONTROLLED CLASS G AIRSPACE, ALL AIRCRAFT ARRIVING OR DEPARTING KABUL AIRPORT (OAKB) SHALL HAVE APPROVED FLIGHT PLAN AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE.

NB For JH, no METAR/TAF available......................... It is believed the Taliban have temporarily restricted the use of Seaweed =))

Same, reputed, small minded, petulant will to destruction that made the Portuguese run cement into the sewage systems, essentially blocking the toilets, when they retreated from Lourenco Marques and Beira in the 70's!

Turkey had their people in there working the airport on one of my trips there, 2003 +/- . That was during the time when ISAF countries were rotating through running the civilian side of Kabul airport so they probably know what they are doing.

Goodness Gracious! Could that possibly be true!!!!!?????

We installed stuff at Kabul in 1999 and some of it got damaged when Empire troopers liberated the place so we had to go back and put in some more stuff. I am pleased to see I will not be needed to go back and do it all again!

Most toilets are probably still blocked since 1978..

I assume you are referring to Afghanistan.

The Portuguese left Mozambique in June 1975. The great blocking event may not have been quite what it seemed to be mind, and yes the infrastructure went downhill even further and remained so right up to the point that Beira was severely damaged by a cyclone and the Europeans funnelled some funds and know how into getting the place going again! The locals didn't have the skills or money to maintain the systems.

As ever the truth is complex.

https://mg.co.za/article/2010-03-19-the ... -of-beira/

Mozambique is a lovely place on the fast track to perdition due to oil, Islamists and international ignorance.

This is getting just like the good old days!!!!!
The Taliban have control of the country, Qatar and Turkey are running the airport and Pakistan is issuing NOTAMS on behalf of 'KABUL INT'L NOTAM OFFICE' which is presumably an office of the absent government of Afghanistan, the FAA is in the mix too!

I think it is time ICAO steps in and swiftly sorts it all out.

But you have not mentioned the international annex comprising of your good self and Boac. I think that both of you should be sent on a corporate bonding weekend!

Boac can be in charge of the radiosonde balloons and you can fix the radio bits! =)) ;)))

I am not sure who can supply the seaweed though! =))
