One requirement of a good politician is the ability to debate using clever words (rather than rely on abusive language).

The problem with the Left is that they hurl abuse in such a way that it puts off those who might be prepared to consider voting out Boris and his mob. What happens is that the voters stick with what they know, even though they can see that it's a definite downward trend, until finally they get fed up with the lies and corruption and switch their votes. Or Labour might get lucky and another Bliar will turn up and be Tory-lite for a few years while screwing the economy from a different direction (although he had the good fortune to arrive as the Tories were descending into the mire in the mid-90s).

The bigger problem is that I don't see anyone in the Commons who would rate as a good PM. Cameron and May could both have been Leaders, up there with the best and they both blew it. Boris probably never stood a chance, he did what he said he would, get the UK out of the EU, but no one looked too closely at what else he was capable of.

He was very much the inspirational team leader or probably a smaller talented team. As a political team leader he needs a much larger team but can only pick from the cards dealt by a capricious electorate or party hacks kick upstairs to the Lords.

Our previous MP was parachuted into an ultra safe seat in 2015, a PUSofS in 2017 and in the reshuffle an actual Minister - prisons, probation and Afghan Resettlement. All just below the radar jobs.

There may be some who feel that a belligerent, ill educated, foul mouthed, ex care assistant is suitable for high office in Government, but I suspect the number is exceeded by those who don't think that.

I can't think of a Prime Minister since Churchill that has had so much to cope with as Johnson, despite popular belief I think he may have coped with some of it quite well, time will tell, the fact that he is disliked by both Biden and Macron is to his credit.

Indeed. To me, that means at least he must be doing something right :-? !

Surely it’s the default setting of all UK Prime-ministers to piss off the incumbent Ffrench President :x

There's an excellent book by Stephen Clarke entitled "1,000 years of annoying the French". Wonder if there's a copy in No 10.

In my humble opinion the French nation was put on the earth in order to be annoyed. =))

...and not just with les rosbifs! I have heard more arguments between French people than any other nationality.

One thing I do notice though, is that they keep very quiet about their overseas territories. Two of the three Guianas are now independent, but not French Guiana of Devil's Island fame, plus a number of Caribbean islands, including 60% of St Martin, and Reunion and a number of islands in Polynesia, including Tahiti. I once flew from Paris to Pointe-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe) and once off the flight began to wave my passport at anyone who seemed interested. I wasted my time. A Sécurité Civile person, suitably attired, informed me that it was not required, since I was still in France - at least I think that's what he said! Try getting into Gib without a passport, and don't even think of trying to land at Diego Garcia!

(I know we British still have a few islands in the Caribbean, but with the exception of Grand Cayman, none of them are easy to reach from the UK).

Same with Spain. Two colonies in N Africa, more trouble than they are worth, are never mentioned 'abroad'. And certainly not in same sentence as Gibraltar.

Look at Clarkson's latest Grand Tour the 2nd episode is in Reunion. The coast road is subject to rockfall so they have built a bypass, off hand it is 10km long and apparently the most expensive piece of road in 'Europe' built entirely on pillars over the ocean, not unlike the railway to Key West but on a massive scale.

In the Caribbean the French and Dutch Islands have far superior infrastructure to the British colonies and former colonies.
