Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
It's my understanding from elsewhere that the Ukes have a wide variety of intel sources, including boots on the ground in the form of locals. There are places in Kherson where it is still possible to access the Ukrainian mobile phone system. The two photos above were linked to the internet by a Kherson resident. Add in that the flight time of modern artillery shells and rockets can be assessed before firing, and confirmed by ground, drone, aircraft, or satellite, and whilst it takes a lot of organisation, the process is not particularly difficult.

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
When I see what is apparently crass stupidity I tend to look for the cunning plan behind it. For this I can find no possible justification only desperation.
Sort of makes you think of Horatius.
.
Sort of makes you think of Horatius.
There be thirty chosen prophets, the wisest of the land,
Who always by Lars Porsena both morn and evening stand:
Evening and morn the Thirty have turned the verses o'er,
Traced from the right on linen white by mighty seers of yore;
And with one voice the Thirty have their glad answer given:
"Go forth, go forth, Lars Porsena! Go forth, beloved of Heaven!
Go, and return in glory to Clusium's round dome,
And hang round Nurscia's altars the golden shields of Rome."
Good old McAulayThrice thirty thousand foes before, and the broad flood behind.
"Down with him!" cried false Sextus, with a smile on his pale face.
"Now yield thee", cried Lars Porsena, "now yield thee to our grace!"
Round turned he, as not deigning those craven ranks to see;
Nought spake he to Lars Porsena, to Sextus nought spake he;
But he saw on Palatinus the white porch of his home;
And he spake to the noble river that rolls by the towers of Rome.
"Oh Tiber, father Tiber, to whom the Romans pray,
A Roman's life, a Roman's arms, take thou in charge this day!"
So he spake and, speaking, sheathed the good sword by his side,
And, with his harness on his back, plunged headlong in the tide.
No sound of joy or sorrow was heard from either bank;
But friends and foes in dumb surprise, with parted lips and straining eyes,
Stood gazing where he sank;
And when above the surges they saw his crest appear,
All Rome sent forth a rapturous cry, and even the ranks of Tuscany
Could scarce forbear to cheer.

Putin will doubtless have a couple of generals shot (or invite them to tea ) if they were to abandon the west bank of the Dnipro, so instead a lot of Russian soldiers will get blown up until the rest surrender.

Cynically I could say that that would be a very satisfactory solution but I do feel sorry for the poor saps who accepted the "President's Ruble".

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
Day 180 of putin's 72 hour conquest of Ukraine.
Russian advances yesterday:
putin remains a master strategist.
Current top nomination for Joke of the Year - The Russian Armed Forces
The Committee acknowledges that they will be unable to present the Award in person to the Fleet Flagship, since they don't own a submarine.
They are thinking of giving it to the largest formation of Russian combat vehicles, but that's in a Ukrainian farmyard, gathered by a tractor driver.
Seven Days to the Rhine - my arse!
Russia's customers for their weapons are now clamouring for large stocks of Russian cigarettes, since officially these are the most destructive forces in the Ukraine War. Tractors rank a close second.

Just in case you hadn't noticed.RT (formerly Russia Today or Rossiya Segodnya (Russian: Россия Сегодня))[9] is a Russian state-controlled[1] international news television network funded by the Russian government.[16][17] It operates pay television and free-to-air channels directed to audiences outside of Russia, as well as providing Internet content in Russian, English, Spanish, French, German and Arabic.

That may be, but many of the articles of news are scribed by Internationally recognized journalists from many countries. I would far rather accept most of their news articles as being closer to fact than say CNN's Brian Stelter.

One step closer to fact makes little difference when both those named are over a thousand miles from it.

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
In other times I have quite liked RT, they have excellent World coverage and intelligent reporters. The problem is that they are totally controlled by the Russian government, a government that disciplines people, for example, for discussing troop losses in the conflict or even using the word "war". Under present circumstances they will report only what their owners, the Russian government, permit.

Doesn't the Soviet Union Russia carry out this exercise every year? Something to do with the annual call-up for people to do their national service?

Pentagon issues update on supplying modern fighter jets to Ukraine

Washington is still considering supplying modern combat jets to Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia, US Under Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl has said. No “final decision,” however, has been made on this matter and actual delivery could take “years” to materialize – while Kiev must in turn be able to “sustain” and “afford” advanced weaponry systems, the official told a press briefing on Wednesday.
“As it relates to future aircrafts, fourth generation aircraft, for example, even if we were to provide those now, they wouldn’t arrive for years, so we’ve been focused on, as it relates to their fighter aircraft, on what they need … to support the current efforts to hold in the east and perhaps going on a counter offensive,” Kahl explained, pointing to the recently approved delivery of air-to-surface missiles that can be used by warplanes remaining in the Ukrainian inventory."
Explains a lot really, how long is this war going to last?, years, at least until they get their new fighter jets and be able to afford them.

The US government intends to officially name its military mission to aid Kiev and appoint a general to command it, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing Biden administration officials. This would formalize the operation that predates the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine and allow the Pentagon to award ribbons, medals, and special pay to its participants."
