"Leaders in Moscow, however, tell a different story. For them, Russia is the aggrieved party. They claim the United States has failed to uphold a promise that NATO would not expand into Eastern Europe, a deal made during the 1990 negotiations between the West and the Soviet Union over German unification. In this view, Russia is being forced to forestall NATO’s eastward march as a matter of self-defense.

The West has vigorously protested that no such deal was ever struck. However, hundreds of memos, meeting minutes and transcripts from U.S. archives indicate otherwise. Although what the documents reveal isn’t enough to make Putin a saint, it suggests that the diagnosis of Russian predation isn’t entirely fair. Europe’s stability may depend just as much on the West’s willingness to reassure Russia about NATO’s limits as on deterring Moscow’s adventurism."
That's as good an excuse to peg on the latest adventure but I don't think Russia will be persuaded by anything at the moment and they are determined to bring the matter to a head, when the West is so obviously in disarray. I'd concede that the relentless march of NATO to the east has impinged on Russia's sphere of gentle :(( influence but what will happen in Ukraine without the West's support? The war in the east of the country has shown no sign of being settled and I can't see the Ukrainians letting go of another huge slice of territory without a fight, even if it might be classified as 'historically Russian'.

Putin has the western powers over a barrel at last, having successfully worked his regime into this position over several years while the west took their collective eyes off the ball.
Should read Putin has the western European powers over a barrel at last.....

The European members of NATO have nothing to fear as they have the US to protect them.

Let's hope the Taliban don't go in on Putin's side.

That happened some while ago ,likely before Uncle Joe and his liberals fu*#ed up the US withdrawal from Afghanistan-Don't leave China out of the deal either as after all they are part of the B(Brazil)R(ussia)I(ndia)C(China)S(outh Africa) Alliance.

P.S. The real chutzpah of it is that the Taliban are now asking the Europeans for aid as their "followers" are now starving now that the US has departed.

"The European members of NATO have nothing to fear as they have the US to protect them."

The difference being that Russia would be the only ones that the U.S. wish to cross swords with, that have the ability to strike the American homeland. That would be quite a wake up call I would think.

Scheeezh, seems the whole world is ganging up on Uncle Sam.. :(

Well no, once again you have the wrong end of the stick! It is not the Taliban followers who are starving but rather those who put their trust in the US and the other NATO countries. Things have been very difficult for them since the US and friends 'departed / ran away' in such an unseemly manner taking the wealth of Afghanistan with them.

Are you really sure you should be facing off with Putin?

I am aware that many in this forum do not believe either RT or Fox are good purveyors of actual fact, but this dissertation by Tucker Carlson on Fox would appear to be a much more in keeping with what is actually happening and what is likely to happen if this stupidity is not stopped.

The Russians realise that we have lost the plot, in the West.
We are obsessed with such desperately important issues as diversity, immigration, rights for trans people and above all- The climate Emergency.

So they are going to show us what an emergency actually looks like.

I can't blame them for taking advantage of countries that appear to be run by little girls.

The Biden Adminisration's support has dropped to all time lows even amongst Democrat circles. He lost support when inflation and soaring oil prices took hold.

"MEDIA Published 2 hours ago
NBC's Chuck Todd: Biden 'no longer seen as competent and effective'
Todd cited a new NBC poll in predicting Democrats were heading for a 'shellacking' in the midterm elections"

Biden just stumbles from one crisis to another and committing the US back to war for a country that is not a NATO member will ensure that he will have no chance to win re-election in 2024.It seems more likely every day that the Republicans will get control of the House and the Senate in the mid terms later this year which Putin and Xi know will render Biden almost powerless to do anything.

The Russians and the Chinese have got Biden right where they want him.

I heard today from an acquaintance who is a retired editor of a major UK news outlet, who knows more about these things than he ever let's on, that Integrity Initiative's annual budget has been quintupled for the current four year budgetary period.

I think that explains why the II crap has been ramped up to what amounts to a daily 15 minutes of hate against Russia, usually personalised to just one Russian bloke.

First, get the sheeple scared shitless of Russia; then ramp up military aggression against Russia to get the Russians scared of us; then wave NATO's willy in their faces and crowd around Russia like mugging "steamers" to make them twitchy; then engineer some kind of incident; then have at it.

Integrity Initiative Three years out of date. The outfit is massively larger now. "Broader and deeper" is how my ex-editor chum put it. He also named some very familiar names from BBC, Sky, Torygraph and Guardian who have been added to the fold of captives since that dossier was compiled.

Retrospectively, I can see Integrity Initiative pawprints all over that C5 Warship documentary series. In every episode they plonk the emphasis on the so-called "Russian threat".

Goebbels, or was it Goering, used to say that in the art of propaganda if you tell a lie often enough it becomes accepted as the truth. That's a classic Integrity Initiative ploy, because they know it works.

Boris saying the UK will be sending troops 'to protect our allies'.

WTF?

Bloody Ukraine is not even in NATO. Are we sleepwalking into another unwanted, unnecessary war- with RUSSIA ffs!?
