Russia-Ukraine war – live: Evacuations as Soviet-era dam destroyed near Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

The head of Ukraine’s Kherson region has said that the water will reach critical levels within five hours after a huge dam was blown up today near the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Ukrainian authorities have asked residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate as water gushes out from the destroyed Nova Khakova dam in the southern Kherson region.

Ukraine’s ministry of internal affairs said in a statement today that with the water level rising, the ministry has urged everyone in the “danger zone” to turn off all electrical appliances, take documents and essentials, and take care of “loved ones and pets”.

Russian and Ukrainian authorities have blamed each other for destroying the dam, with Kyiv calling the attack “ecocide” as Moscow blamed it on “terrorists” – Russia’s byword for Ukrainian forces.

It comes as Ukraine’s defence minister, Hanna Malyar, claimed gains of up to 1.6km in several directions” as Kyiv is now “shifting to offensive actions” in some areas, amid growing signs that a long-awaited counter-offensive has begun.

The commander of Ukraine’s ground forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi also claimed that his forces were “moving forward” towards Bakhmut.

It was over maximum capacity, and had been overtopping for a couple of weeks.
The Russians blew the sluice gates when they were forced to leave Kherson.
The destruction of the dam to prevent a counterattack across the lower Dnipro was always part of the Russian plan.
This is not the first dam they have done it with.

Nor should we forget that Ukraine did it with the Irpin dam to defend Kyiv.

Note that the dam level was under the control of the Russians, as they controlled the Khakovka dam power station on the south bank.
That the water level was already way over normal maximum is entirely deliberate on their part.

Russian propaganda is in a right state.

We have the headshed in Moscow saying no rebels ever crossed the border.

The regional governor saying two days ago they'd abandoned NT as they were unable to defend it, but today claiming there're no rebels anywhere in the region.

And a bunch of Russian troops lined up for the camera today in Shebekino announcing they are prepared to die for the Rodina to retake the occupied NT.

Meanwhile, the RVC are clearly shown in their own videos wandering around NT today, petting cats without a care in the world.

Quite what the commander, in his command vehicle, is doing under a mile from the border and apparently unescorted in broad daylight is an interesting question.

Here's one immediate consequence



The current prevalent theory, based on the damage to Russian defences, is that the Russians triggered a far bigger breach than they intended, which was to flood just the possible ferry loading/unloading points on either bank of a putative Ukrainian counteroffensive.

What is this thread but a collection of opinion pieces. Some you may agree with, some you may not. It is obviously a thread that thinks the sun shines out of zelensky's A hole. Many in the world, and more every day, are coming to the realization that he is certainly not what the Western Press are portraying him as, and he should have stuck with his previous employment, he was obviously making a lot of money in those enterprises.

This is a thread where we are trying to establish what the truth is, and the likely consequences.
And so the western media gets quoted very little.
Because as has been stated many times on many threads, the media haven't a clue but do have an agenda.
There's no point you attacking western media - we've beaten you to it.
And we've told you that before, but it hasn't got through.

Just taking this page as an example, the material is factual, not opinion.
There's photos and video, cross-referenced, checked by ourselves, tested against military logic and prior evidence.
But what you present is simply wrong, and from sources that obviously do have an agenda, and/or highly questionable - if not already proven illegal - backgrounds.. It doesn't count as an opinion if it's wrong. We've shown the details in your posts to be wrong lots of times, invited you to respond. You never do with any logical reasoning or evidence.

And Ukraine was only 4 countries less corrupt than Russia when this all started. Nobody doubts that there was huge amounts of grift, and there's probably still quite a lot even now.

But none of that changes the fact that putin is a murderous criminal, and his invasion of Ukraine was evil. And what his troops have done, both with orders to and without, is evil.
And they deserve to lose for that reason alone.
And they are going to.
