Wow! If that is the quality of Russian AD pilots I can sleep more soundly! Talk about cack-handed.

Fox, as an aside, our Nav instructor had been on. Meatboxes, NF14. Did a night VID. Talked Biggles on and slightly low. Biggles then said look to your right. Well put to the right was a light. He didn't understand why he was so far out.
Biggles then said look left. Same distance another light.
Then he said look up.

Poland to be 1st NATO member to give Ukraine fighter jets
While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has pleaded for Western supporters to share fighter jets, NATO allies have expressed hesitancy.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/pola ... -rcna75281

Poland’s president said Thursday that his country plans to give Ukraine around a dozen MiG-29 fighter jets, which would make it the first NATO member to fulfill the Ukrainian government’s increasingly urgent requests for warplanes.

President Andrzej Duda said Poland would hand over four of the Soviet-made warplanes “within the next few days” and that the rest needed servicing and would be supplied later. The Polish word he used to describe their number can mean between 11 and 19.

“They are in the last years of their functioning but they are in good working condition,” Duda said of the aircraft.

Duda did not say whether other countries would be making the same move, although Slovakia has said it would send its disused MiGs to Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Polish government spokesman Piotr Mueller said some other countries with MiGs also had pledged them to Kyiv, but he did not name them.

While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has pleaded for Western supporters to share fighter jets, NATO allies have expressed hesitancy.

Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine had several dozen MiG-29s it inherited in the collapse of the Soviet Union, but it’s unclear how many of them remain in service after more than a year of fighting.

The debate over whether to provide non-NATO country Ukraine with fighter jets was initiated over a year ago, but NATO has been wary of making the war escalate.

Duda made the announcement during a joint news conference in Warsaw with the visiting Czech president, Petr Pavel.

Duda said Poland’s air force would replace the planes it gives to Ukraine with South Korea-made FA-50 fighters and American-made F-35s.

Poland was also the first NATO nation to hand German-made Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, last month.

Poland is a crucial ally in the Ukraine crisis. It is hosting thousands of American troops and is taking in more people fleeing the war in Ukraine than any other nation, in the midst of the largest European refugee crisis in decades.

It has suffered invasions and occupations by Russia for centuries and still fears Russia despite being a member of NATO.

We discovered that the Tornado F3 standby gunsight wouldn't stretch to the wingspan of a B52.
This was important because the jamming kit on that thing would render the radar useless, and they had more flares than the 1970s.
So, I worked out the span between the outermost engines and we used that.

Interesting to see on a vid yesterday that the RPG warheads are attached to Ukrainian drones with duct tape.

Probably not just any ol' dust tape. Probably Gorilla Tape.

Fox, have you figured out how he hit the prop and missed the 3 tail fins?

Dunno.
Air props aren't designed to work in fuel. Maybe the loading of a glob of fuel on the tip did it, whilst the non-rotating fins were less affected.
Maybe a proper engineer can tell us.
This would fit with the Russian claim that the aircraft didn't actually hit it.
The fact remains that they caused the drone to crash, and there is zero evidence of the "sharp manoeuvring" the Russians claim.
So, every nation now knows the Russians caused it and are lying about it, which was the point of releasing the video.
Whether each nation chooses to acknowledge that, and/or do anything about it, are other questions.
I expect the Chinese will ignore it and indirectly use it to make further call for a ceasefire.

The real question is whether the US will increase support for Ukraine, specifically with either ATACMS or fighters, which they have previously treated as escalatory.

Update:
Doing freeze-frame on the last second of the MQ-9 video, I think it's possible the prop was impacted by the ventral tailfin of the missile on the stbd outermost pylon.
This would also fit with the Russian claim, being strictly literal, that there was no damage to the aircraft.
I usually find the Russian statements that have been gone over by their diplomats need to be read very carefully.

War consequences:
The Netherlands
Dutch provincial elections yesterday, which also determines their Senate in a couple of months.
The FvD were the largest single party in the previous election. They have openly supported the Russian position over Ukraine. The Prime Minister Mark Rutte has used his powers to support Ukraine.
He's also proposed restrictions on fertilizers, as part of the Green / carbon agenda, which would devastate Dutch farming.
Yesterday, the FvD went from 86 seats to 15.
Mark Rutte's party went from 80 seats to 64.
The largest single party is now a new party, supporting the farmers, with 139 seats.
Turnout was the highest since the Cold War.

It will be very interesting to follow further consequences of support affecting voting, although the only elections due in the next few months are in countries like Estonia, where support has been pretty universal for one side or the other.

Kazakhstan is up in 3 days.

If this American UAV was operating in International Airspace, why was it not complying with International Law? Why would the UAV have the ADS-B turned off, if not for nefarious reasons?

They should be using Muscovy Duck Tape.

I believe they are following 'International Law'? I do not think that not wishing to be observed' by excitable spotters is 'nefarious'.

I cannot claim to view every ADS B every day but each time I have looked FORTE has been shining from base and along its patrol barrier.

The same has been true of AWACS, Rivet Joint, Tankers etc. However......

A few days ago the RAF RJ has been accompanied by two Typhoon
Usually they led in and followed out. Their tanker remaining on tow line over Romania.

Last week I noticed a change. While the RJ and escorts were shining when near Romania airspace they all went dark before continuing south of Crimea. They would shine again as they passed a switch on line. They followed this procedure each time they moved east.

This all changed after the knock down. The only aircraft shining were Black Hawk over Romania

FLASH

FORTE 10, an RP 4B is patrolling overland West of Moldova, but has also extended into the Black Sea and further east of its previous patrol. It is also significantly further south and at 3,000 feet higher.

The greater distance and altitude would significantly affect the Flankers should they interfere again and give the Global Hawk a slightly longer view.

And shining all the time.

It's my understanding that there is no international validity for any of Russia's so-called restricted airspace over international waters.
Nor, for that matter, should any other nation declare same.
It's something the media always get wrong when talking about ADIZ incursions.
Anyone know different?
