Not a mention of that fool Merkel closing down nuclear generation facilities because of a risk of tsunamis sweeping over Germany, or the idiot Greens now in power who think they can grow their own 'energy'.

An acquaintance who is a German physicist told me he and his colleagues calculated that to grow enough plants to produce bio-fuel for Germany would require two and a half times the surface area of Germany, with no room for cities, towns, and of course, autobahnen.

The madness swept over the world a while back.
There were no consequences of note until the first crisis appeared.
It just has.

It's a bit like ignoring the 'Bridge is Out' sign. The road is very smooth up to the point where there no road at all.
In fact, even the drop into the river is quite smooth....until the river is actually hit.

You guys must have heard about the controversy of the turbine being repaired in Montreal and being returned to Germany or Russia so that Russians can continue to sell gas to Germans. Allowing it to go violates Canadian sanctions against Russia.

A couple of questions …

1. Has someone asked the Germans about their decision to shut down coal and nuclear plants and to rely on solar and wind power generation? How is it going? Was it wise?

2. It is unclear where these turbines are going. Are they going to Germany or Russia. If Germany, why is there a problem? The sanctions are against Russia, and while rekindling the turbine, regardless of its location, is in aid of pumping gas from Russia to Germany, technically it is not a violation of the sanctions.

3. Why is a Russian turbine working in Germany or Russia being repaired in Canada by a German company? Wouldn’t Siemens, in Germany have the facilities to repair?

From my 25 years living in Germany, if Germans were told by their leader that something was wise and necessary they accept it. I remember shocked looks from Germans a few years ago when I was mildly critical of Frau Merkel. "You can't say that, she's the Bundeskanzlerin." If the leader says we have to accept millions of immigrants or turn off nuclear power, well then, that must be the correct decision or she wouldn't have made it. A nice law-abiding race.

Thread drift. Someone once told me when prisoners were captured after WWII and there weren't enough allied soldiers to guard them, you could pick out a German prisoner, tell him he was in charge of the others, tell the others to obey him, and next day they'd still all be there. Try that with Italians and they all scarper in five minutes.
