Chaos in Israel.

#1 Post by barkingmad » Tue Mar 07, 2023 7:07 am

Apparently it’s not only civilians who are upset at the plans to cripple their Supreme Court, now the military are revolting as well;

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-64866873

Yes apparently they are reservists but how far does this sort of behaviour go before it becomes a military coup?

And what might happen in other countries where hubris has taken hold of their leaders?

It appears that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has overstepped the mark in his controversial move so wait with interest how this one plays out... [-X

Wassamatter oh brave O-N members, are you afraid to comment on this story in case you invite accusations of being anti-somethingorother?

The brave and principled aviators have backed down, presumably threatened by the government military higher-ups, but now it seems the concern over democracy in Israel is spreading amongst government related occupations;

https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/israeli-pi ... -govt-yet/

Meanwhile across the hedge, allegedly the Saudis and the Ayatollahs have kissed and made up following a period of strained relations.

So what does this unease in the Middle East hotbed mean for stability in that tortured region?

Rice grains available for sensible answers, if you dare to respond… :-?

If the Arab world is taking a break from infighting, that could cause a bit more tension and violence with Israel. The latter people don't exactly do themselves any favours with their actions - they won't secure lasting peace if they keep pissing off the neighbours, even if some of those neighbours are a bit difficult to live with. I appreciate it's a difficult environment, but some of what they do, I look at from the outside and can't see how it's going to do anything more than escalate things. It may be fully justified, but what gets reported, and how, doesn't help their cause in the longer term. Perhaps their strategy is to survive until the oil runs out and the rest of the world loses interest in the area, then they'll be free to put the boot in.

Things still turning pear-shaped for B N before and after his much-hyped visit to the UK.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-m ... t-65085001

“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been on trial facing charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in three cases since the witnesses testimony began on 5 April 2021.

He denies any wrongdoing and claims he is the victim of a "witch hunt".

After winning Israel's elections for a second time, Netanyahu decided to pass a judicial reform plan.

That was, according to those who have have taken to the streets, a plan to protect himself from a possible court judgement which will end his term as prime minister.

The plan announced on 4 January is:
The reforms would give the parliament authority to override Supreme Court decisions with a basic majority
They would make it very difficult to declare a prime minister unfit for office and remove them from power
Netanyahu says courts are overreaching their powers and the reforms will restore a balance between judiciary and executive branches”.

Just imagine the reaction in any other ‘western democracy’ if their leader decided to modify the system under which they were on trial? BoJo might have tried it if he thought he could get away with the plan, so just imagine that outcry, assuming the apathetic British public could be arsed to actually get out and to protest... ~X(

Of course the Ayatollahs and their other neighbours in the sandpit will be rejoicing at the chaos and wondering how they might take advantage of the disruption... :-?

Happy Easter folks, let's hope this calms down soon or else;

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/4/7 ... k-shooting

Am I the only one in O-N who seems to notice this dangerous escalation of violence in the sandpit?

Or is Ukraine still the #1 threat uppermost in people's thoughts? :-?

Last year I was on a cruise and Mrs 1DC and I enjoyed a very pleasant evening dining with an Israeli couple.As we were enjoying our coffee a Moslem couple walked past the table on their way out of the ships restaurant and the Israeli chap went nuts saying the bast*rds should never have been allowed on the ship and he wouldn't be sailing with the shipping line again. I suggested that they had as much right to be on the cruise as he did and he turned his venom on me saying that because of idiots like me the world was in the state it was in. Him and his wife then stormed out of the restaurant. With that kind of hatred in the country will their ever be peace??

Try this: Federal government invokes Emergencies Act for first time ever in response to protests, blockades

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he's invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada's history to give the federal government temporary powers to handle ongoing blockades and protests against pandemic restrictions.
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".

And so it goes on and on;

Ursula Fond of Lying certainly has a lot to deal with of late, but at least it distracts attention from the Vak Scene contracts’ text messages. 👏
