UN positions? Russia, North Korea

Russia, which has committed war crimes in Ukraine, took charge of the U.N. Security Council in April. Earlier this month, it was announced Iran, which represses its citizens, will chair the U.N. Human Rights Council 2023 Social Forum. And now Dr. Jong Min Pak of the North Korean Ministry of Public Health will sit on the WHO’s executive board until 2026.

Now then, as far as I know these positions are not awarded on merit but rather than by the 'law of turns'?

If invading countries, bombing cities, torture, extra judicial executions, stealing children and various other nasty shyte was grounds for exclusion from the UNSC just how many members would there be?

The public health and human right records of the DPRK may not be too flash but if organizations such as the WHO are to have any relevance it, just like the local school PTA, must accommodate the good with the not-so-good. Nikki Haley does not represent a country with a stella health record and their human rights record leaves a lot to be desired too.

The Russians respect nothing but brutality and power.

They are an extremely odd people! So talented and often erudite, but also so wrong in many ways.

Putin like so many of them is just a Slavic gangster, I pray that I live to see the day he dies, preferably with his severed appendage in his mouth.

It is hard to be rational with irrational regimes I guess.

Fox3wmb, is your country a member of the UN? If so why do you not strive to make the UN work? Don't you think the members bear the responsibility for the functioning of the UN?

Yes; Not fixable; Yes.

Neither is my country's government fixable, in my opinion.
Have I tried to fix it, and the professions that I quit? Yes.
And from my attempts, and watching the attempts of those more capable than myself, I worked out why I don't think they are fixable.
Quite what happens next, I don't know.
I continue to fix what I can for my relatives, friends and neighbours.

The UN is an organization of member countries and I can see why one might not like that especially if they subscribe to the idea of a one world government centred on Washington, Beijing, Moscow (maybe not now) or London (too late for that I think).
