I remember the lights on the A4, but remember they did work to a certain degree.
There are similar lights on at least one road in the Algarve, Portugal, between Portimeo and the Monchique, drive over the posted limit and the lights turn red!

Given the state of potholes on some of the roads I have encountered in the UK recently, 20 miles an hour seems about as fast as one might dare to go without risking damage to the car. Lots of cash strapped councils are failing to maintain B roads under their jurisdiction.

With my tongue in my cheek, I was wondering whether it might not just be cheaper to employ pelotons of the Lycra lot to cycle up and down the roads the powers that be want to traffic "calm!" The traffic might be calmed but boy do they boil my piss! :ymdevil:

A new 'bypass' road constructed in Denmark during our time living there was created with 'through traffic' timing of the traffic lights that allowed 'free passage' at the speed limit but impeded speeding.
