It could well be a group that would like to see Iran and Israel get stuck into each other.Fox3WheresMyBanana wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 6:16 pmYup, no commitment to any action whatsoever.
Iran has promised a "harsh response" to....whoever it was that blew up the remembrance parade. The Interior Minister has admitted they have no idea who at this stage, though of course the Supreme Leader and a Vice President are blaming Israel.

That narrows it down to a cast of a few billion, including most of Iran and Israel.
Or it could just be putin again.
It's not the normal M.O of the Mossad or the Yanks, AFAIK.
I'm clueless. Do you have a shortlist?

Re: A grave mistake
The Israelis have just hit another suspected terrorist leadership house in Lebanon.
Reuters reporting 4 Hizbollah members dead.
Naqoura is just two miles north of the Israeli-lebanese border.
White House using its usual language to deny any knowledge of either US or Israeli involvement in the Iranian bombing.
Rent-A-Crowd in Iran baying the usual "Death to.." to both of them anyway.

Re: A grave mistake
How short is short? My first guesses would be someone with authority in either Israel or Iran, a bit like the rumours that Netanyahu knew what Hamas was going to do, or even had people encouraging them, so he would have an excuse for what happened next. The next guess, which is a more risky one, is that one of the terror groups that Iran has allegedly suckered into taking action has gotten annoyed at the lack of support and has decided to poke the bear.Fox3WheresMyBanana wrote: ↑Thu Jan 04, 2024 12:19 amThat narrows it down to a cast of a few billion, including most of Iran and Israel.

Those are the reasonable ones. Putin would obviously benefit because of the distractions, and if China had designs on Taiwan while the rest of the world was busy, they would have motive, but I don't think they'd do it. I can't see the US doing it, I'm sure they want the whole area to calm down without the need to incur US casualties or disrupt the US economy.

Re: A grave mistake
Well, the supposed Joint Decision was just empty words, the US and co have continued doing nothing proactive, and so the Iranians have taken another step.
Turns out this tanker was itself seized from the Iranians for transporting sanctioned oil, and so with Marshall Islands Registry has now been seized back by Iran.
I can't see Biden acting on this one either.
The tanker is full of Iraqi oil and on charter to a Turkish firm, en route Turkey.

To misquote Yoda:al-Arabiya has reported Thursday afternoon that the US military is "stepping up its contingency plans for a response to Yemen's Houthis in the near future"
"Bomb, or do not bomb.
We''ll have none of this 'full Cabinet meeting' or 'stepping up contingencies' cr@p"

The Times is reporting that Sunak has authorised strikes, and they expect RAF jets to join forces with US forces "within hours".
The Houthis are promising an increased response over recent actions if there is UK/US action.

Probably use the carrier, I would think, with some token Tiffies from Cyprus. The Naval aviators must be getting bored.

CBC (no, I don't watch it, but it was on at the gym) reporting, with horror, that 5 were killed and 6 injured in airstrike on Yemen.

Why do they put it on at the gym..so you hit the punchbag harder?
Re: A grave mistake
Should another thread be opened for the Red Sea crisis? With Turkey accusing UK and US. Evidently attacking ships is ok, then.
What's wrong with people? What was all the fuss about Covid deaths - now that we see bombs and missiles are ok to drop on their neighbours (or just ships) for some?

Re: A grave mistake
Yes, it's OK to drop bombs on those who attack us and our assets. It goes under the rubric of "don't bring a knife to a gunfight".
