When all else fails, read the instructions.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
This is Zizi, now in her 18th year. We acquired her from Wood Green Animal Shelter in Godmanchester back in 2002 and she's a world traveller, having crossed the Atlantic three times. She is an expert at sitting between me and the computer.

Beautiful ! and I guess she occasionally walks over the keyboard ?She is an expert at sitting between me and the computer.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
That she does, yes. Or she'll sit with her tail or arse holding a key down and chaos ensues. As with the other cats, she'll sleep on the laptop keyboard because that's flat and warm, unlike the desktop one behind her.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Just wondering why all cats are "she". Aren't there any toms around these days?
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
You mean like this one. This is Cake, doing his best to have a nap despite the presence of the large dog. He's also a traveller, born in the US in 2008 but made a trip to the UK and back.
Then there's Sirius, occupying the couch as best he can, again, despite the presence of a large dog.

Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Muffalo is male. Perhaps I should write 'was' as not seen for the past two weeks. He had a few scratches round his lower back last time I saw him, may have been attacked by another cat on his visits up the mountain, so either got scared off or owner keeping him in, or moved back to another house. Whatever, not a worry as we are away for six weeks....

As for expert keyboard technicians -
Llondel, Zizi's expression, especially eyes, is absolutely priceless!
Over the rainbow now, a week before her 17th birthday two autumns back. Managed to create an absolute mess in settings with a rare 4-key combination. Llondel, Zizi's expression, especially eyes, is absolutely priceless!
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Zizi still looks the same as she did when we got her. Possibly a bit fatter, a bit slower. she did lose weight for a bit but had a radioactive iodine treatment to clobber her thyroid a bit and that seems to have worked nicely. We were told not to let her sleep on laps for a week or so after that.

Great Queen Imogen
We, the unworthy, bow before you!
As mere supplicants and humans we beg your grace and favour
With gifts and promises of cream to be rendered to you oh mighty feline.
With salmon to be lightly filleted
Midst sweet dulcimer playing and soft cushions for your comfort.

Fans of Stargate, series one, will recognise the face from the opening credits.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Sirius at the vet on Friday. He's up to 10.5lbs, which surprised us because he looks so skinny compared to the other cats, who are all fluffy long-haired types.

Kepler, feeling the heat. Yes, that is a standard-height (30") table on the RH side of the picture.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Llondel, you share your house with some lovely companions, Zizi is looking very good for her age, long may she last. Do you hold pet insurance in the US? We have found that looking after aging cats can eat into the monthly budget quite a bit.
Our new 6 year old (or possibly 5 year old, her CPL documents have conflicting dates of birth), is already under the vet and requiring medicines, I think that she might require psychiatric treatment due to her destructive behaviour, either that or she lives in the shed, one of the two, here she is catching a nap in the garden.

Beau, the flat pack dog.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
These are the two that adopted us. The larger tom (Tom) arrived first as a very nervous, but very hungry, cat. After a few weeks of acclimatisation and safety he rocked up with the female (Biscuit) who settled in rather more rapidly. Now both neutered and chipped and feet well and truly under the table. Don’t know a huge amount about cats but, by their behaviour, we wondered whether they were siblings.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Woody it looks like Muffalo on that footy field but it could've been this guy...
At least he eventually got up.

Re: Cute Pet Pictures
Thanks, they're a handful at times but generally they all get along.
We don't have pet insurance. I did look into it at one point but it would probably cost us $500/month for all of them, given three cats over the age of 7 and three giant breed dogs, one of whom is six years old. $6000/year covers quite a bit of vet care, given that vaccinations aren't covered (and are the major part of the year's vet bills). Over the many years we've had pets I can remember a few painful bills, £2000 for a cat with a broken leg, $2000 for a dog c-section, another $2000 to fix the hernia that arose from that, $1000 for radioactive iodine treatment for Zizi and a few miscellaneous smaller ones for ear infections and UTIs and the like. Generally we've been lucky so far though.
This is Sirius, officially two today, birthday extrapolated from how old we guessed he was when we found him in the back yard (mid-May, aged 3-4 weeks). Tesla insisted we adopt him, and would try to clean him with a tongue as large as he was. He's playing with a lizard tail here, hopefully the front end managed to escape.
Re: Cute Pet Pictures
We've never had pet insurance and, touch wood, haven't needed it, but daughter has a Newfie and took out insurance as soon as the dog arrived. I'm told that the dog will have to live to 19 before the insurance company turns a profit - two cruciate ligament orthopaedic repairs, chipped front leg bone (more orthopaedic work), rash & hair loss (multiple vet visits & treatments).
