Much sympathy, Hydromet.
Your words and photos are a lovely tribute to your pal.
He looks much-loved and so happy.
I couldn't have said it better. He's been in a happy place with you and he's gone to another happy place.

Hydromet - from one dog lover to another, my sympathies on your loss. Hopefully memories of Beau will bring forth a smile in future times.

It is so wonderful to read about a re-homed dog that has so willingly settled in to their new surroundings - be reassured that you probably gave Beau the best four years of his life.
Now he is off to Rainbow Bridge . . .

Thank you all. It's sad waking up without having to avoit stepping on him next to the bed, and walking alone won't be as much fun.

We have one who looks a bit like that. Longish fur, nominally a black cat but actually with brown/orange in the coat, especially in sunlight.

My sister's cats with a heavy involvement of mine - I am their sitter when sister and husband are away. They were all born as strays and the multicolour one managed to get adopted while my sister and her husband where vacationing in the island of Kythira. It is a lovely one very affectionate for a cat and dedicated to my sister to the point of having similar eye problems to the same eye. The black is a gentleman who loves to play with almost any one and the one to the left an oxygen thief. Hard to find and appears only for food.

Thank you all for your sympathetic posts re Beau. Much appreciated.
On Tuesday I was in the workshop and one of the magpies came in for his morning tea. Usually, he and Beau waited side by side for me to get their meat. On Tuesday, the magpie went walking around the workshop looking for his partner in crime.

Got up this morning, had breakfast. Coming back to the bedroom, this is what was occupying my side of the bed.

RiS - cute cats, they've got that "you're not going to Facebook this, are you?" expression.

Sister and husband have implemented a no Facebook policy and here is the only site where pics are allowed to appear. Thanks for the kind words.
By the way I hope you have a second bed for you - those dogs look so peaceful to be disturbed.

Nah, they’re both ours Slash. The grey one started visiting and eating the shredded cheese we put on the lawn for the magpies. After shooing him (yep, his name is Tom :D ) away a few times we thought we’d put something a bit more substantial in bowl as he looked so forlorn and thin. It took a few weeks before he’d trust us enough to stroke him. We had his nuts off once he was handleable and more relaxed and the following week he invited the brown female (Biskit - don’t ask, the wife named them) to come a live with us. :D

We think that they may be brother and sister and he’d been looking out for his smaller sister. As soon as he was convinced that we were a safe haven he brought her in. Kerching - another $800 to get her fixed!

Introducing Myf. She has just taken up residence chez Alison. She's a kelpie/collie cross, brindle in colour, eight years old, and was adopted from the pound this afternoon. Don't think she was getting a lot of sleep at the pound. Fairly active until I fed her about 3:00pm, when she snuggled up in her new bed and has slept ever since.

She is absolutely gorgeous. A little smaller than a normal collie, just knee high, but all of it's features. Took her to visit the neighbours, let her off her lead where she wandered around sniffing. She knows her name as when I called her she came straight to me. Mind you I did have a bag of beef and liver treats which she had already sampled.

Alison
Do you know any backstory?

Seems mature for an 'unwanted' hound - unless her owners were themselves 'old'.

Good that she seems to have good manners.

Looks a nice hound and good that Ali has taken on a more mature lady, they are difficult to re-home.
Have a few happy years together.
