Starving stray cat

#1 Post by OFSO » Fri Apr 01, 2022 12:02 pm

The picture below shows the pitiful starved figure of one of two stray or feral cats I feed now and then. Taken -obvously - from above while it enjoys a handout from me.

There are many videos on t'internet depicting rescue organisations in central-European countries collecting abandoned strays - usually puppies and dogs, but also kittens and cats.

Fortunately, these organisations are well-financed, so most of the stories are about successful rescues.

My post was ironic. I have never seen an abandoned cat here that wasn't supremely healthy, or had, in winter, a superb thick and glossy coat. Cats in rural Spain are viewed as an asset, of course.

It did occur to me that 'your' cat wasn't in immediate need of sustenance judging by its body appearance.

Turned up this morning, howled for food. I went to get the keys and raise the portcullis, but when I returned it had gone. Has just been back and mamfed a load of food.

I thought that was meant to be 'lucky'?

Probably depends on whether you trip over the cat and break something or not.

A black cat crossing your path is actually considered to be good luck in many parts of the world.
In Britain, Ireland, Japan and Germany, it is believed that encountering a black cat on your travels is lucky.
However, in America, these cats are said to bring misfortune

But only if the encounter is on Friday the Thirteenth and you walk under a ladder and break a mirror.

Cats are good at helping people with tripping and falling. I almost got the full experience (tripping and falling) fortunately I managed to stay upright. My sister has asked me to help with feeding some stray cats. An ginger one did a good effort and my sister says he is a very kind one with strangers. Now, he knows me how to avoid me.

The cat is exceptionally sensitive to things being done to her. A gentle squirt of parasite killer tonight in the fur of the back of the neck and she is Not Amused. Ran off doing a shimmy and shake. Should help to distribute the oily fluid.

24hrs later, ticks appear to have fallen off. The cat has been standing on it's back legs bumping me over and over. Seems to be grateful or pleased with me. Oh I forgot, only a dumb animal.

She knows that, but she still likes you anyway.

I wonder what is the mechanism that causes the ticks to lose their grip?

Does it kill them?
They work by killing fleas and ticks by depositing chemicals into the sebaceous glands, where the active ingredient is released and translocates through the glands that lubricate a cat or dogs coat with oil. When applied, the compound quickly translocates across the skin. The pesticide will attack the flea and tick’s nervous system and cause the parasites to lose the ability to feed on your pet.

We deflea our owner every few weeks, but it’s getting harder to catch and treat her without getting scratched :|

You need leather welding gauntlets.
