Lost our Scottie in a wheat field last night. She went down a tractor track and eventually our of sight when she went round a loop. In the lower half of the field, about 1 mile round the edge, there be rabbits.

No trace so I went home and with Mrs PN went back to try and cover the options. I went up the track we had originally been on when we were going home.

As I neared the last known position, there she was sitting waiting for me. She was obviously not lost and knew exactly where she was. I put her on the lead and we started home.

Back on the main track she shed her collar and indicated she wanted to go in the other direction. She didn't run off though, just waited for me to follow.

Back home she gulped half a bowl of water.

Well, I thought this was another No 10 story. :))

PS Sounds as if you are in breach of the law regarding dog collars?

PPS How did the plan ever get named 'Save Big Dog'? It should be 'Save Big Rat', surely?

Tonight, same point where she wanted to go last night after we caught her she slipped her collar and did a runner. Had to run after her. Essentially she is obedient and stopped after 50 yards and me shouting at her to sit.

Scotties rarely bother to sit as its less effort to stand. She stood.

Faraday can slip out of a buckle collar so we got her a martingale collar instead. Although at the moment she's on a rolled leather slip collar and while she is deficient in the fur department, it can fall off because the fur normally keeps it in place.

Last night, same place, this time accompanied by a friend in an ATM (a 3 wheel mobility scooter) and her black lab, Pepper.
Isla kept with us, popped into the wheat, popped out again. Then we reached the footpath through the wheat. Probably not suitable for the buggy. At this point Isla was determined to check that field again, just took her collar off again!
Harness next time I think.
