Doggy not well
Doggy not well
My doggy is not well. Hasn't eaten anything for a good ten days. Seen two different vets. Neither able offer any clues as to why. External checkups suggest nothing untoward. One vet happy to spend lots of my funds - from exploratory surgery, lots of blood tests, etc. etc.
Dr Google suggests not unusual for older dogs to lose interest in food. Can be up to a few weeks. She is 13+. Perhaps I need to stop worrying. Although it is 04:00am and I am here trying to hand feed her cubes of her favourite cheese, without success. Currently bowl of tender chicken breasts and white rice cooked in bone broth in kitchen untouched. Seems to be drinking normal amounts of water.
She does seem to be more "clingy" than previous. At present lying on my feet under the desk.

Poor Myf. That's concerning. Kind thoughts.

What about mobility? Does pooch simply lie in bed - or does she behave normally and want to go walkies?

10 days is a big concern, having just done the tumor thing, thoughts very much with you.
Ask around, find the best vet, not the nearest or the cheapest.

Re: Doggy not well
Whilst she is spending a lot of time curled up asleep, when awake she is quite alert, trotting around behind me around the house. Ears stuck up straight as well, and looking quite bright eyed. Still absolutely no interest in food though. Being Winter down here, and very wet with it, she hasn't had a great deal of exercise, so has put on a bit of weight. So not looking thin as such.
Still no idea what to do. Get the impression from Dr Google that loss of appetite in older dogs may be quite normal. Huge number of vets in the area, all aiming to retire on the income from a single client. Note number of vet programmes out of the UK on the box, never mention costs, ever.

Success I hope. Defrosted some whiting fillets for my dins. Dipped them in flour and popped them into frying pan on low heat. Wasn't up to doing additions - vegies extra. And Myf wandered across - drawn by the smell. Put large piece of cooked whiting in open palm and offered it to her. She scoffed it straight down. Continued until all whiting eaten. So much for my dinner. Myf came back looking for more. That was three quite decent sized fillets. Me - beans on toast.

Glad that Myf enjoyed your fish
At the age of 13+ it seems to me that Myf is just getting old.

Perhaps she was tired of your offerings and finally hit on something that she likes.

Re: Doggy not well
Alison, glad hound has recovered appetite. As others have suggested, it's not unusual for older dogs to lose their appetite for a while. The fact that she was alert and walking around normally are good indicators.
As you say, she had gained a bit of weight recently. Perhaps she just wanted to get her figure back!

Re: Doggy not well
Myf RIP. Took her to the vet this morning. Found a nice "family" vet, really nice old chap. He gave her a thorough going over, plus blood tests. Said her kidneys were shot - urea and creatinine very bad. Said there wasn't much to be done. So I agreed to her being euthanised there and then.
Very sad but for the best. Alison.
