Skye Introduction.

Hi folks,

my name is Skye. I am a 6 year old Border Collie, who has just been rescued from the local dog pound by this lovely person Alison. Excuse the hair, can't get grooming at the pound.

She bought me a nice expensive bed, but as soon as she goes to sleep I hop on to her recliner for the night.

After my father died, my mother acquired a Border Collie while on holiday in Cumbria. Apparently, its wind was broken or somesuch, so the farmer gave it to her. He turned out to be a lovely dog. As others have said intelligent, friendly, and very loyal.

I've been having lymph massage sessions with Sabrina T. Her two border collies sleep in the room. Hard to get dressed afterwards as they sit on my feet until ear and neck rubs are awarded. Lovely creatures.

My NextDoor feed is inundated by posts for lost and found pets. Not just dogs and cats, but pigs, goats, tortoises, and birds.
In addition , the most heartbreaking, are the posts from the volunteers at the shelters begging for adopters and fosters for the dogs that are e-listed.
I am taking care of D#1's rescued cattle dog and D#2's 3 Chihuahua-mix rescues. That is in addition to the 3 cats, two semi-feral, that migrated from their mother's house. Oh yeah, and the three tortoises, two of which were daughters' Christmas presents many years ago, and one who escaped from a neighbor who didn't want it back.
With this menagerie I am reluctant to bring anymore into the mix, however I am always tempted to try.

An update on Skye's bedding in would be nice. Just now and then......

Not been good at all. Currently Skye is back in the pound. Over the years I have adopted numerous rescue dogs. This is the very first time that I have ever had to return one. Essentially, whilst Skye was a really nice affectionate dog, she was not a domesticated pet. She was a working dog. Incredibly intelligent, but strong willed. It was a constant battle between what I wanted to do and what she wanted.

She was not in anyway driven by food, totally ignoring "treats". So food inducements were of little use. In the week I had her she "escaped" five times, being captured twice by the local council ranger, and brought back - at a cost. She chewed through a variety of woven leashes like they were nothing. Would have needed a metal chain to restrain her. Fences were meaningless. She would get the sh*ts with me and just piss off.

The last time a ranger from a neighbouring area caught her and took her to the pound. Caught her 8kms away no less. She was just sitting on the side of a road, almost waiting for him. She knew where she was and had probably done it before. So it was goodbye Skye.

Couple of months now since Punto crossed the Rainbow Bridge and, while we still have Henry, last night SM was just gently hinting that she wanted to rescue another.

So sorry, Alison. You did your best. An older Jack Russell perhaps? Wife's family had a lovely one. Or an older, non-working, border collie. My masseur has two. Happy to sit by you all day and have their ears rubbed. Soothing for rubber and rubbee.
