Cognitive failure at 5 mile point.

Flaps 1 were selected at 243 knots IAS, the landing gears and speed brakes were retracted. Over-speed and EGPWS warnings were then triggered.

Mentally tuned to operate the landing gear and did just that having failed to remember it was already down. I

One other thought, was the Captain ex military? Was he executing a tactical approach showboating to the P2?

I was once in an Egyptair aircraft a few months before Yom Kippur war. The Captain did a tactical departure, high speed taxi, reverse pitch, rapid turn on and go.

The crew were present in body only. Non sterile cockpit, possibly perfunctory approach checks while discussing Covid. Too fast and too high an approach, ignored Approach advisory of anomalous altitude profile, raised gear, possibly with Captain attempting to save face, ignoring alarms etc. Effective belly landing with damage to engines. Go around with neither crew or ATC acknowledging situation onwards to compete engine failure and disaster. Extraordinary!

I wonder if the 'gear up' at 0.5 miles was a frantic but fruitless attempt by the F/O to force a g/a, as I posted earlier?

I gave some additional thoughts on this point: maybe the FO did it but why the Captain didn't go g/a? Didn't he registered the gear up, wasn't he told, or he was so committed/stubborn?

Euro News yesterday said

Aviation experts fear the ban by the European Union could also affect PIA flights to the United Kingdom and Canada because its aircraft will not be able to fly over Europe forcing longer routes.

Clearly they were saying the ban did not apply to landing in UK. Evidently as PK701 is overflying EU airspace their fear has not been realised either.
