Light Aircraft Missing Off Blackpool

#1 Post by Cave Canem » Thu Dec 03, 2015 5:33 pm

A missing light aircraft may have ditched into the sea after disappearing from radar screens, the UK Coastguard has said.

A major search is under way off the coast of Blackpool after contact was lost with the pilot who was flying solo from the Isle of Man to Blackpool Airport.

As you say, floating debris has been found. One can only hope the pilot made it into a dinghy or the like as taking into the water at this time of the year would not be conducive to a happy outcome after so many hours.

The weather looked awful on that video.

As you say, hope he made it into some sort of life raft.

If there is wreckage it doesn't sound like a controlled ditching therefore no controlled exit. Can't read these news reports (slow 3G).Sky News said he was just 3 miles out therefore on an approach under radar? Do they have an ILS. Years since I went there.

The missing pilot has been named as Ian Stirling, aged 73, of Douglas on the Isle of Man.
