Lucky that the tide was out
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Did they remove the wings and use a Queen Mary?

Yes, but the crane is unlikely to have trundled through the streets.

Re: Lucky that the tide was out
So near, and yet so far! From the photos I've seen, the aircraft landed on South Shore and could only have been about a mile or so from Squires Gate. Quite hard compacted sand when the tide's out, (good job it wasn't Shoreham/Brighton, eh?) so probably smoother than BLK's runway. From memory, and unless things have changed, they should be able to transport it back to the airfield without having to take the wings off. There aren't many obstructions in that area, and once the illuminations traffic had died down, they would have had free passage.

At least they landed by the fish and chip shop.
