Four people were injured and taken to hospitals Wednesday after a small plane landed on a South Texas street and crashed into three cars, authorities said.

Three people had non-life-threatening injuries after the crash at about 3 p.m. in Victoria, and the fourth was taken to another facility for a higher level of care, police said.

The pilot was being evaluated, Victoria police said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

The small plane landed on Mockingbird Lane and a feeder road to Zac Lentz Parkway, also known as State Highway Loop 463, in Victoria, a South Texas city about 85 miles north of Corpus Christi.

“We are glad that it wasn’t worse than what it is. This is not something we see every day,” Deputy Police Chief Eline Moya told reporters. “But we are glad that people seem to be OK, and they are getting checked out.”

The plane was a twin-engine Piper PA-31, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Only the pilot was on board, it said.

Images from the scene showed the plane broken in half near a highway overpass.

Video shared on social media showed the twin-engine plane flying very low before it landed on a street. Planes in trouble sometimes land on streets and highways.

The FAA said it is investigating.
