Maybe overhead racks should autolock at all times other than cruise, although that could even worsen the situation if some tosser tries to break one open. I suppose there is no cure for stupidity other than Darwinism.

That may work until you have a plane full of Syrian "refugees" who would refuse to leave the aircraft until their demands to unlock the bins are met.

Come tho think of it that may not be a bad idea :D

Got this pic from Capt. PPRuNe's FB page. Wonder if the guy who took it gathered his carry-ons before exiting.

Probably stuck in his seat by a fellow passenger burrowing in the overhead locker.

I still think that those people should be charged for endangering the lives of passengers and crew.

Or just shoulder charged in the midriff while reaching for the overhead compartment.

ALC I would suggest shoulder charged a little lower down. Or in the case of the woman with her wheelie baggage grabbed firmly on the chest with two hands and a quick twist in opposite directions :-o

Wasn't it on QF32 that the CC had a stand off with a passenger who was told to leave
his bag and didn't so the CC member picked it up and threw it across the seats.
The Captain said he backed up the CC member because I gather the SLF was not
happy about it.
