As for the Wingly thing, I'm exasperated. I saw a PPL(H) with 70hrs TT hawking himself on their website to fly a 20 minute flight to some country hotel in a Robbie for a coupla hundred Quid. If that is legal then there's something wrong with the Law.

Not to play oneupmanship but..... A few people have sent me links to even 'worse' cases on Wingly. The intent of the rules is to allow cost sharing on a route where both/all parties were going anyway. These ads were from people with the ink still wet on their licences offering to take people wherever they want to go at prices that looked suspiciously like the whole cost.

I don't see anyone doing anything about it, even post-Alderney, so I won't be surprised when I see the next crash.

It appears that Mr Ibbotson had mounting debts and had been given his 5th court order to pay debt at Grimsby Court only five days before the incident. Perhaps the pressure of these debts influenced his decision to fly that night?

From the article...
He insists he does not know who owns the aircraft and states categorically that it is not owned by him or any commercial entity linked to him. He will argue that pilot David Ibbotson was licensed to fly passengers, albeit not to do so commercially.
That comment is stupid beyond belief. If you didn't know who owned the aircraft, should you not have found out? "...was licensed to fly passengers, albeit not to do so commercially." What do you call it when you accept money to fly someone from A to B? Jesus wept. :-o

This is hardly 'breaking news' unless you are the BBC. :))

Good old BBC. TV autocutie reading about Sala Seniors demise saying how his sons private jet crashed in the Channel Islands. Call me pedantic but I was under the impression that an early Malibu was powered by things that go up and down connected to something at the front that goes round and round. Later Malibi may have been powered by a turboprop but never to my knowledge a jet.

Was it a 'fighter jet'?

It wasn't even his private a/c, let alone a jet. It was an illegally operated private charter with a pilot and a/c neither of which were appropriate for the conditions.

Very sad for all concerned and so utterly unnecessary, since there was no need to do it 'on the cheap'.

It is being reported today that Sala (and by implication the pilot) may have been affected by potentially lethal CO levels prior to this accident.
