I think the trial has ended with a Guilty verdict, Isn't the hapless pilot now "arranging his affairs" before returning and receiving what the judge called a substantial sentence later this month.

OK thanks. I thought that they were sentencing last week.
"arranging his affairs"
. Does that mean nicking an aircraft, loading it with all his valued possessions and fuel half way up the windows en route to France but only to make it as far as another potato field? =))

I wrote to them about a year ago suggesting they look in to illegal charters and 'Wingly'-type websites and apps. Miserable barstewards never even acknowledged my missive.

Cancelled my subscription a couple of years ago too. I'll pop into W H Smiths tomorrow and read the article on Barton. :D

Not much he can say really save "It was a fair cop guv!"...

I bet he gets about 4 years.

The man is clearly a fool given that any competent pilot (no matter how greedy) would have been aware that the aircraft was critically overloaded and out of balance.

I shall be claiming my beer from Ex-Ascot who sportingly acknowledged that I had won the bet about the length of the sentence. ;)))

He's been back in court this week and has had his sentence increased for lying when taking out insurance.

What an arrogant obnoxious fellow! He should never ever be allowed again near the controls of an aircraft.
