Trump just grounded the 737 MAX. Didn't look like the FAA or Boeing were going to do it on their own.

Well done, Herr Drumpff! :YMAPPLAUSE:

Is Caligula now going to make his horse the new Administrator of the FAA?

How long will it be before Chump changes his mind?

If the Administrator of any US Government agency had some horse sense, we might all be better off ;)))

Dennis Muilenburg, chief executive of Boeing says: "We are supporting this pro-active step out of an abundance of caution.

"Safety is a core value at Boeing for as long as we have been building airplanes; and it always will be.

He and his supine FAA have fought tooth and nail to stop this grounding. The man is a hypocritical sh1t.

I think it was Churchill who once said: The Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing, but only after they've exhausted every other possibility.

President Trump says he is grounding all U.S. flights on Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 planes 'effective immediately' in an emergency order of prohibition. Any plane that is currently in the air will be allowed to land
..... as opposed to what exactly?

Boeing have now issued a world-wide grounding of the 8 and 9.

In view of the fact that the damned things aren't allowed to fly in anyone's airspace, it's not quite magnanimous of Boeing to ground the type, is it?

Here is a link to the FAA grounding order.

Interesting. What has been found?

This is probably the same satellite data that cause Marc Garneau to ground the 737 MAX in Canadian airspace earlier in the day.

What I would guess is that it shows a seesawing altitude readout consistent with a crew struggling as I described above with a failed AoA sensor activating the MCAS when it shouldn't.

When in doubt lash out ( throttle, flaps, mixture, carb heat, spoilers, trim, etc. i.e. everything forward for speed ) and fly the bl**dy aeroplane.

Where have I got it wrong ?

Mate you forgot (prop) pitch up, gear up, mags check both, cowl flaps open, stop that bloody wild trim wheel movement...and to assume ISA.

IMO if you want to continue to fly the MAX at present you need to stooge around with flaps 1 hanging out to prevent any of that MCAS nonsense.

At last! Slasher has found a use for a co-Joe: give the fecker a door-stop wedge and have him jam it between the trim wheel and the pedestal on command.

The really puzzling bit about the ET accident is that if they were having MCAS issues on take-off, as is being 'hinted at', they should not have been! FLAPS UP is one of the conditions. I wonder if this is something else, perhaps yet another Boeing 'Easter Egg' in the system?

That is also my concern. On the one hand, the 737 MAX is now perfectly safe, since about half the planet now knows where the stabilizer trim isolate switches are. On the other hand, everything about the MCAS, the company that built it, and the inspectors who approved it, is so f#cked up that you wonder what else they've f#cked up on.

It looks to me as if there is a rarely occurring phenomenon of the AoA vane giving a false indication due to some kind of aerodynamic funny with the vane itself, perhaps combined with a pitot grolly. In this scenario, the trap is sprung when the flaps come up. Then the crew is floundering with massively conflicting cues.

Stick shaker going like blazes with airspeed massively increasing and that insidious thing of the trim stab ratcheting forward (nose down) intermittently but relentlessly through an unseen and unknown hand.

A viciously murderous ambush, for which the handling skills of your average crew nowadays are unprepared.

Boeing apparently re-issued and rehighlighted some AoA servicing bulletins after the Lion Air crash. I have read of one incident, aircraft type unknown, where the AoA gauge literally froze on climbout after it had been washed incorrectly. I was always taught to memorize the attitude and power settings for normal phases of flight, so if everything else went west you could still get that right. And remember them both by the instruments, and by the view out the window and the engine noise. There are benefits to doing a bit of flying on Tiger Moths during one's training!
